Router ERR_CONNECTION_RESET error

I have a Cisco DPC2320 modem and cannot connect to the modems configuration. I have typed in my default gateway IP address number 192.168.1.254 but I get an Error code: ERR_CONNECTION_RESET. I used to be able to get into the configuration, but I uncoupled my modem to do some decorating, then plugged everything back in but now it does not allow me into the configuration. I have tried different browsers and resetting the modem, but without any success...any ideas????

try bringing up a command prompt (start|all programs|accessories|command prompt ) and type in ipconfig and press enter. This will allow you to confirm your gateway address and will give you status information on all of your network connections

You may have to pack a lunch , grab a cot, and call your cable services provider (note: this sounds like a case for a tier 3 tech.) Cisco and/or the cable companies do not seem to be inclined to make ANY info available. Sorry about that.

See the manual , pages 5-6 (link below) for the location and operation of the factory reset button on the back of the router. This will restore factory defaults, which means you will have to set up your router to match your network devices again, or just start over with new network settings.

To get my connection to work, I had to configure my Netopia DSL modem for Bridged Mode and let my router take care of the routing and address assignment. I would also try to get a working connection before configuring security. You can always do that later. You have the order of powering up you equipment correct. Read this link. It works for me.

Did you call Comcast and give them the new MAC address of the Motorola SB5101 SURFboard cable modem? I'm surpised it works at all without doing this first. This is the hardware address of your modem so the world can see you, no one in the world has the same MAC address, they are all different. It's on a sticker on the modem.

How to a change password wifi cisco dpc2320

plug ethernet cable directly between a pc and router and then type in dos prompt ipconfig to find ip address of default gateway if this is the only router. Then note ip addressd it will be most likely 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 and put this into an internet brower url address box and you should be able to log into the router unless it has a password and user name set . Go may need to google the default user name and password for the router . go into wireless security settings and then you should be able to change the encryption key.

How to configure a Router?

How to determine the WAN configuration or Interntet configuration of a SOHO Router?
1. Connect the computer to the Modem via Ethernet cable. Make sure you are able to going online 2. After confirming you are online. Go to Start->Run. Type "cmd" on the Run window. 3. Type "ipconfig" on the command prompt or Black window or DOS window 4. You will be getting IP address,Subnet Mask and Default Gateway
There are 4 possibilities of IP address you can get
i)Public IP address under PPP adapter. -Router has to be configured in PPPoE mode to get a WAN IP. This will require a Username and Password from ISP ii) Public IP address under PPP adapter and Private IP address under Ethernet adapter -Router has to be configured in PPPoE mode to get a WAN IP. This will require a Username and Password from ISP iii)Public IP address under Ethernet adapter -Router has to be configured in Dynamic IP or DHCP mode to get a WAN IP -If it is still not getting a WAN IP address. * Click Mac clone on the router's WAN configuration * Power-cycle modem and Router. iv)Just a Private IP address under Ethernet adapter -Router has to be configured in Dynamic IP or DHCP mode to get a WAN IP -If it is still not getting a WAN IP address. * Power-cycle Modem and router.
After determining the WAN mode, it is time to configure the Router
1. Connect the Modem to the WAN port of the router. Connect the computer to the LAN port 2. Go to Start->Run. Type "cmd" on the Run window. 3. Type "ipconfig" on the command prompt or Black window or DOS window 4. You will be getting IP address,Subnet Mask and Default Gateway. The Default Gateway will the IP address of your router 5. Open a Web browser and type http://192.168.1.1(where this is the default IP of the router. This will be different from each manufacturer) on the address bar. 6. Go to WAN settings or Internet settings and select the options based on the above mentioned possibilities

Connect motorola modemsbSB6121 to Belink N600 wireless router with out losing internet signal

Step one turn on PC directly connected to ModemsbSB6121 without Wi FI router being involved.
Step two go to Command prompt type in ipconfig (press enter)
Step three note IP address of default gateway and ip address issued to P.C.
Step four type in default gateway address into browser and log into Modem.
Step five look for DHCP Server and allocate IP addresses from at least 50 for example 192.168.0.50 starting ip lease ending ip lease 192.168.0.254
Step six connect Wi Router to P.C. via ethernet cable only - remove ModemSB6121
Step Seven shutdown and restart p.c
Step Eight go to Command prompt type in ipconfig (press enter)
Step Nine note IP address of default gateway and ip address issued to P.C.
Step Ten type in default gateway address into browser and log into Wi Fi Router
Step Eleven Change IP address on Router to 2 as example 192.168.0.2. (it has to match in that modem device would have been 192,168.0.1)
(if it was 10.0.0.1 make wi fi 10.0.0.2 make sure subnet mask is the same like 255.255.255.0)
Step twelve Change DHCP Server to off
Step Thirteen may need to set default gateway to MODEM IP address for example 192.168.0.1
Step Fourteen plug modem router into Wi Fi router may need to plug into WAN port on WI FI router .
Step Fifteen shutdown and Restart Computer
Step Sixteen go to Command prompt type in ipconfig (press enter)
Step Seventeen type in PING 192.168.0.1 (if this is modem IP address and default gateway IP addess)
All this above is to avoid IP address conflicts or mismatching
Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
either it uses 192.168.0.1 or it uses 10.0.0.1 make sure Wi FI router is set to different address to Modem Router.
I suspect either a clash occurs or your P.C gets a different IP range from ther WI FI DHCP server.
Happy troubleshooting !

I dont know how to get wireless internet

Check the ADSL or cable modem status light. If it is solid green, it indicates that your ADSL/cable modem has a good connection. If the light is off, check modem's physical connection.

Verify that the Internet light on your wireless router is solid or blinking green. It indicates a good connection and correct wiring.

When done, log in to the web interface of your router device and check if it can obtain the IP address from your ISP or not.

If you see 0.0.0.0, the router is not obtaining the IP address. It can happen due to various reasons. Contact your ISP and ask for the details including username, password for PPPoE etc. and try to connect to the Internet again afterwards.

You may also need to configure the default gateway settings also. To configure your router device as the default gateway, reboot your PC. When done, open Command Prompt, type 'ipconfig/all' and hit Enter. Check Default Gateway

If you are still unable to browse the Internet, ping your router's connection to the PC.

The Request timed out error can occur due to two things: (1). incorrect physical connection between your router device and the PC or (2) incorrect wireless network setup & configuration. Recheck and correct the Ethernet connection between your PC and the router device.

When done, check back if you can browse the Internet or not.

disconnect all the connections from the router. connect only the computer to the port 1 on the router. check the lights on the router. Reset the router for 30 seconds . unplug the power to the router. plug it back in. wait for 1 minute.now check the IP address on the computer. Win XP = click start ==> run ==> type cmd in run box and click ok. you will see the command prompt. in the black window type ipconfig and hit enter. now you will get the IP address and the Default gateway. Default gateway will be the number of your router. This will open the roputer set up. not check the settings on the router. If you connect the modem to the router, it works. now reconfigure the router as per ISP. Click Here for more info about how to set up router

Router cannot get IP with cisco 675 modem

Hi,

The issue may be due to the existence of two (2) DHCP servers; 1 in the Cisco 675 and the 2nd in the DLink DI-524. You need to disable the Cisco's DHCP server function and assign static IP add & config to the DLink WAN config. This way it will only be the DLink handing out IP adds to the network.

The workaround. Install your original configuration/setting without the DLink DI-524 - PC direct to the Cisco 675 (I am assuming through Ethernet ports). Verify that indeed you are connected to the Internet and can surf the net, check e-mails, etc. Check your Networking Connection Status. Log down your PC's IP Add, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS. For purposes of discussion, let's call this "N1".

After your Internet connection has been verified with your PC directly connected to the Cisco, remove the direct connection and connect the DLink DI-524 in between the Cisco router and your PC.

Log in to the DLink and modify WAN parameters using the "N1" configurations/settings.

It might be of help to disable any security (WEP WPA, MAC etc) at least while configuring.

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

No access to set up modem or router

you might have configured your lan settings wrongly.

If your modem was setup for DHCP then you configure your lan to receive IP address automatically, DNS automatically.

If DHCP is disabled on the modem, you have to USE static IP Address for your lan ip and default gateway should be your modem default ip.

the default IP for modem is usually 192.168.1.1
if DHCP is disabled on the modem the sys ip is 192.168.1.3

So Configure your LAN setting as follow and Type http://192.168.1.1 in the address url.

Lan Settings:
IP Address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

click ok.
and type the above url, press enter the modem will ask you for username and password.

Good Luck.
