Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Roku problems I have had my roku for over a year without any problems until recently netflix shows are constantly cutting in and out. Basically the show blinks off for a second or two and then comes back. This will happen repeatedly during the course of a program. Any idea what is going on and how I might fix the problem?

Every now and then mine does this also. I unplug it and let it reboot.
I would be interested in hearing a lasting fix.

Roku, How To Setup a Roku Player

You want to try the Roku player so you can stream NetFlix to your TV over your home internet connection. It can be a bit of a hair pulling experience to set one up. So I'll try and make it as easy as it can be. First; Once you receive your player, and connect it to your TV. You need to get your new player on to your home network, be sure you have a router with wireless capability's. You will need to know the name of your home network, and you will need to know your WEB key or the pass key to secure your access into your home network. To do this, go to "Settings" (on the Roku menu) then scroll thru the menu until you see "Network", press network, look for your home network and press on it, then put in the WEB key to access your home network router. Remember after each step unplug the Roku for 10 to 20 seconds to set the memory.(may take more than 1 time with some players) NEXT; Go to www.Roku.com internet site and set up your account with them, they will need info on how to bill you if, you use a pay chanel. So they will need some bank account info, Or you can use PayPal. Next On the Roku "My Account" page, down at the right bottom of the page you will see the "Link Player" button, follow this to input your Link code, or go to http://owner.roku.com/link to input the code. Then go to the Roku menu screen and finish the setup with your Link Code. This will now activate your new Roku player. Next you will want to go to NetFlix and set up an account with them. Same thing here, they need bank account info to bill you, if you stay past the free demo time limit. Now go back to your TV, Roku menu and scroll thru the menu to press on NetFlix, here you will go thru the Menu to get another link code. This time it will come on the TV, Roku menu to go back and put that code in your NetFlix account to activate your Roku player with NetFlix. Now in the process of all this, you may have to unplug your Roku player after each link code to set it into memory. This causes a lot of folks to have some trouble as they do not, "Turn Off" the Roku after they put in the network key, the Roku link code, then again after they put in the NetFlix link code. One last bit of help. Do not create a large Instant Queue on your NetFlix account over 50. This causes problems with the memory usage in the Roku player, and It can keep NetFlix from loading. Hope this helps FixYa up.

Help getting a roku box given to me under my own account

You need to access the Netflix app. From the home screen it should show the Netflix app. Refer to the user manual if you have trouble with this, or if you do not have one, download the manual for your specific media player from the Roku site. If the media player is not responding you may need to do a factory reset. The manual will also cover this. Once you access Netflix it will prompt you to sign up a new account You will need to provide your credit card details.

What is Silverlight? and does it cost extra. Remember I have no personal computer at home.

you sound a little confused, netflix is a streaming service which requires a internet connection most people use a wireless internet connection, a wired connection would work better, netflix can be used on pc or a roku box and even some tablets. silverlight is a browser plug in for a pc. netflix basically streams movies and tv shows using a internet connection.

Roku sound

Most common problem I have run into recently is that there are a lot of home theatre and tv units that don't support Dolby 5.1 plus, 5.1 works fine but most of the show on netflix are using 5.1 plus now.
easy fix for now, when you start a show on Netflix go down with the arrow button and set the audio to (stereo). I currently have that problem as my home theatre supports Dolby 5.1 but not 5.1 plus.
I'll be checking the Spec's on my next home theatre receiver to see if it supports 5.1 plus.

hope that helps, good luck

To set up roku with netflix

To setup a ROKU player for the first time can be a tedious process. There are many steps but it can be done. You have to have high-speed internet service and a router linked into your home network. You need an ethernet cable for a wired router or you need a wireless router.
Look at the following

LIVE CHAT is available on the ROKU website
Also support forums. Many issues have already been solved.
http://forums.roku.com/
Basically your TV is connected to the ROKU box which is connected to your router which is connected to your internet service. You must have a current NETFLIX account setup.
You need a computer to activate Netflix. Use the ROKU remote to startup the process and follow the instructions on your TV. Look at this video on setting up ROKU.
