Sounds like a problem for the plumber. Or check your hoses, maybe they are clogged with lint. After some time, you need to replace. Maybe the switch on your washer needs to be replaced as well. Sounds like an electronic problem. But you should use a professional instead of trying to fix it yourself.

Our washer will not stop filling with water. Even on a low setting it will fill to the top and run out the back. What can we do to fix it?

there is a small hose from the tub to the water level pressure switch
make sure that there is no water in that tube
that switch if operational turns on the wash program at the same time turns off the inlet water solenoid
when the water hits the set level , there will be a noise as the solenoid clunks and the was starts
if you have the noise but the water keeps flowing , replace the inlet water solenoid unit

My samsung sw80usp does not stop filling with water, no matter where i set the water level

Hi.

Make sure that at start the machine is filling, and that the noise you hear is not because of a broken inlet or because drain pump started at the beginning of the cycle after detecting water in the tub.

If the water does not stop filling and ends up with overfilling, then the pressure switch is usually responsible. Before going for pressure switch have a look at the inlet valve. Make sure that it is not stuck open. The pressure switch is accessed from top of the machine. It looks like a round shaped part with contacts at one side and a long thin rubber hose connected. The hose goes inside the tub. Clean pressure hose first. If that does not work replace the switch. If switch replacement does not work and inlet valve is OK, then control module is defective.

Regards.

I started a load of wash and the water stopped flowing into the machine. It will spin, so it isn't anything electrical. The water will not fill it up?

If there's no water at all, make these checks: If you have a Maytag® washer, is the fuse (if there is one) in the control panel at the lid-switch bracket blown? Is there a faint buzzing or humming noise coming from the water-inlet valve? (The water-inlet valve is the device on the washing machine that the fill hoses are attached to.) If you can't hear anything, the water-inlet valve may not be getting any power. If you can hear some noise and there's water present, you may need to completely replace the water-inlet valve.

Not spinning or rinsing?

After the machine fills the next step is to agitate. By agitate I mean the wash portion. The plastic fin in the middle of the tub rotates back and forth. So, after the washer fills, if the machine does not agitate, but stops dead, you have a broken lid switch. When I say stops dead, I mean no noise whatsoever. If the machine makes noise you have other problems.

If the machine fills, agitates, and then stops dead, the problem is still the lid switch. The next step would be describing the noise so I can more accurately give a suggestion. Problems include but are not limited to: broken couplers, malfunctioning water pumps, and/or defective motors or transmissions. These are the vast majority of the problems, and the others need no mention.

With a model number I can give a part number of the lid switch, and or other problematic parts. Also, I can give you an average price of the parts. With this information you could order it yourself and save money :) The model numbers are located under the lid of the washer. Not physically on the lid, but right under it. Get eye level with the top of the washer and you will see it ;)

Machine only puts out water.wont spin.

This is a typical problem. If the machine fills up and stops and makes absolutely no noise whatsoever, what you have here is a broken lid switch. The machine simply thinks the lid is open, and therefore does nothing. For your washer, you need a lid switch with a part number of 3949247. Naturally after cracking a machine open you may find uncommon things such as broken and/or burnt wires, but these are unpredictable and highly unlikely.

Will not pump out the water

You have a bad lid switch. Open the control console. Remove the lid switch wire. Make a jumper wire from a insulated piece of wire. Insert it into the lid switch harness connected to the machine(not the cabinet). Turn the dial to spin. If it spins replace the lid switch.
If it makes motor noises and does not spin, replace the direct drive coupling on the motor.
