CP7677 wont read ohms

Continuity works on the meter but will not read ohms, replaced battery and fuses are good.

Make sure the test leads are correctly inserted into the proper sockets, select the range that is higher than what you are testing, e.g., 240ohm, set it to the 2k range. If you are not getting a reading, (open circuit / infinite / "1.") click up one range. You can download the manual from their website if you don't have one.

How do I test fuses?


With voltage present, get a voltage meter and put a probe on either side of the fuses. You should have 0 volts if the fuse is good. You will have supply voltage if the fuse is burnt.
If you check without power pull the fuse and use audible continuity or the ohms setting on the meter. You should read 0 ohms if the fuse is good. If it reads O.L. the fuse is burnt.

Heater and windows quit working ,how to check closed fuses,or should i say incases not clear fuses


use a multi meter set on ohms (continuity) and put a lead to either blade/end of the fuse If the meter reads no ohms then the fuse is good . If no reading then the fuse is shot.

Dryer drum works but does not heat. Everything else works. I have checked the fuse and I have made sure it is not on air dry.


THERMAL FUSES MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THIS In recent years the makers of dryers are using thermal fuses to let you know something is wrong with your dryer. They are generally non resetting and have to be replaced. The thermal fuses are located on the heater element housing and should read continuity if read with an ohm meter. Most blown thermal fuses are the result of vent/air flow problems or a grounded heating element. Follow the diagram below to see how to check the continuity of the switch, and look closely at the switch to see a fairly close idea of what you are looking for, ok

OR it could be a thermostat.
Cycle and safety thermostats-read them with an ohm meter. Should show continuity .

or lastly, it might be
the Heat elements-Test heater element with an ohm meter. You will read continuity across a good element ( 8-12 ohms is an average element ).

IF you do not have an OHM-METER, then you can check these issues by following the directions below:

To check the thermal fuse - You can bypass the thermal fuse (just connect the 2 wires together) for testing purposes only.

To check the thermal cut-out - You can bypass the thermal cut-out (just connect the 2 wires together) for testing purposes only.


To check the thermostats for continuity - - You can bypass the thermostat (just connect the 2 wires together) for testing purposes only.

To check the Element: Try removing element and physically looking at the element wire for a break in the wire.

My roper electric dryer was working fine then i put a load in and it wont turn on. Yes it is plugged in. Do you have any idea what it may be?


Yes,I have a good idea.
First,take your volt meter and verify 220 volts are in fact coming to the dryer terminal block.
If it is,unplug the dryer.
Remove the rear panel.
Set your volt meter for ohms.
Unplug the thermal fuse located on the left of the main exhaust vent.
It is 1 and 1/2 inches long by 1/2 inch wide and white in color.
Touch the 2 meter leads to the 2 terminals on the thermal fuse.
No trading is a bad fuse.
Replace it.
If the fuse gets a reading it is OK.
Then,open the top lid from the cabinet and check the door switch for continuity.
If there is no continuity,replace the door switch.

1998 electra glide keeps blowing fuse for light and headlight wont work and volt gauge shows overcharge when i rev engine.


Hi Flattopmike1, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.

8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

Where is the horn relay located found fuse horn will not cut off unless u take fuse out drawing down battery trying to check to see if relay bad cannot find it


The horn relay is located under the hood with the fuses. look inside the lid when you remove it from the fuse/relay box and it will tell you where the relay is located. To test the relay use an ohm meter and connect one end to 87a and the other end of meter to 30. there should show continuity. then check between 87 and 30 and there should be no continuity. if all of this checks out then check resistance between terminals 85 and 86. It should read 70/80 ohms. if not replace relay. If it shows good then connect a jumper wire between battery positive terminal to 86 and a ground jumper to 85 terminal. You should hear a click or clicking sound. If not replace relay. hope this will help you.

Remember that the smaller wires in a dryer carry the 120V and the large wires carry 240V. There is no voltage on these two terminals with wires removed. It is ok to test with ohm meter.

Testing with an ohm meter checking on a dryer....

Q - My electric dryer runs but will not heat, what could stop my dryer from heating?
A - Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating:
- house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug.

A - Things that could stop a gas dryer from heating:
- glow bar igniter, thermal fuse ( not all models ), coils on the gas valve, gas valve, thermostats,motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, sensor.

The left front radiant heating unit does not heat. All other are working fine


Check the heating unit with an OHM meter.

This is not rocket science. An OHM meter will check for continuity (a break inside the heating unit). Any appliance parts place will have a meter, even Wal-Mart. The meter can be set for AC/DC/ OHM's, Volts, etc.

Set the meter on OHM and touch the two leads on the meter together and the meter arm should move. Now, take the heating unit out of the range and touch one lead to one end of the heating unit and the other lead to the other end. If you get a reading then the unit is good and the switch must be replaced.
No reading, replace the heating unit.

Some parts require knowing how many OHM's but in this case any kind of reading will show there is no break inside the unit (continuity).

You can check extensions cords this way or set it on volts and check batteries. Everyone should have one.
