HP home computer will not turn on

I have checked the outlet, fuse box, surge protector. I have unplugged and re-plugged all lines. We properly shut down the computer last night, when we push the square on button on the front of the computer, it will not light, there is no fan sound, nothing. Completely dormant. There is a green light on the back. When I press the screen, it automatically goes into screensaver and shuts down.
Any help out there?

I guess the problem is there in the power supply i.e, smps of your cpu. change it and check whether it turns on. if your pc fails to start after changing a new smps then the problem should be your motherboard.

There should be a surge release button on the surge protector to bring the protector back to normal (should be red in color) Some surge protection devices have this option so just check if your s has it. If that is not the case than I think that you might have blown a fuse in your TV.Might just have to open it up and change the fuse within with the same ratings, but please be careful because do have high voltages so get an experienced technician to do this for you.
Good Luck.

If the computer was not plugged into a surge protector the computer could be damaged. If it was plugged into into a surge protector see if there is a reset on the surge protector .Try unplugging the computer for a few minutes and the plug it in again and try it. You can try plugging the computer into a different outlet that you know is working(without the surge protector). If you look on the power supply there may be a reset inside the case.
If nothing works you may have only burnt out the power supply in the computer, you could try another power supply from another computer to see if it is just the power supply. If still not working you would have to test and trouble shoot all your parts to see what is damaged.

Hi,

Were there any storms in the area and did you have it plugged in to a surge protector? It definitely seems to have some power. I would try plugging it in to a different surge protector. If that doesn't work you may have to work with Xerox support as their may be damage if there was a surge.

I've seen quite a few instances similar to yours with HP's bigger MFP's
If it is in a surge protector:
Remove it and plug it into a wall outlet directly.
If not:
Swap outlets to confirm it's not the outlet itself on the way out.
and or test the outlet for proper voltage.

HP recommends plugging it directly into a wall outlet, and never into a surge protector.

If it was plugged in during a power surge without a surge protector, there is a possibility it could be dead. Or if it was plugged into a new outlet without a surge protector, especially if it was never properly shut off before the move, that could kill it. Try unplugging everything and letting it sit for 30 seconds, then try again (with a surge protector if you have one)

Surge protector shuts off while playing PS3

swap to another surge protector. if it still does it, it is a power surge at the outlet, if it does not, the Surge Proctector has worn out. have someone with the appropriate knowlege have a look at the outlet as well. older outlets especially tend to wear to the point where the plug literally falls out of the wall.

Tower won't turn on

Brandi,

Please check the following:

1. Make sure the the surge protector is securely plugged into the wall. Test this by plugging in a light / lamp to it, to make sure it's working.
2. Make sure that the surge protector is turned on.
3. Check to make sure that the power cable from the computer to the power surge protector is securely plugged in.
4. Check to see if the computer will power on now.

5. If this still isn't working, remove the power strip/surge protector and connect the computer directly to the wall.

6. If this STILL isn't working, try plugging your computer into a different outlet in the house to see if the outlet in your home might be bad.

6. If your computer STILL isn't powering on then I'm afraid the worse has happened, which is one of the following issues:

1. Bad power supply (they are cheap, around $20-40)
2. Bad motherboard (they are sort of pricey, around $50-200)
3. Bad CMOS battery (they are cheap, around $5-10)

I can fix all of the above and order parts for all of the above, if you are in need of parts.

I hope this troubleshooting guide helps you! If this resolves your issues, please mark this question as resolved and select my answer. This will assure customers that I can help them with their issues.

Thank you,

Totally lost power to HP 7110

Don't Worry the HP printer are deisgned to connect without the surg protector.

Try the steps mentioned bellow

Unplug the power cord from the All-In-One as well as the power outlet when there is still power in the All-In-One. and wait for atleast 1Min
Plug the power cord directly to a wall outlet without surg protector. (if possible connect it to a different power outlet)
Before connecting the power cord to the All-In-One press and hold the # and no 6 button and then insert the power cord, do not release the keys
until you see a message a reset (if the screen goes blank then release the keys and turn the power on)

If This does not work in the power cord you will see a rectangle box like thing thats a apdptor, after plugging it to the power oulet for a couple of minitues, check and see if you can feel any heat in the adaptor if yes then the adaptor is good the power cord may be bad, so accordingly replce the power cord or adaptor:
