SOURCE: humming inside the switch

Is it connected to a fan motor also? - most dimmers are for lights only - if there is a ceiling fan connected you may experience a humming sound from the dimmer

SOURCE: need to replace the HPM dimmer switch with a normal switch

This is not a difficult job. First of all go out to a home depot or other hardware store and purchase one three way switch. They come in white, cream, and brown.

Back home, kill the power to the lights you are working on. Then open up the dimmer switch, the other switch doesnt need to be changed. Now, simply draw a diagram of where each wire color is now connected and remove the old dimmer. Reconnect the wires. Remember that the white wire goes on the dull color screw and the other two go on the brass screws. Turn the power back on.

If you do all this and the switch only works correctly part of the time just reverse the two wires on the bright brass screws. Please mark this answer as a fixya!

SOURCE: Trying to hook up a Lutron fan control and dimmer

The old switch is just a single pole switch. The new one is for fan speed control. You need to use a regular single pole switch like you had. Or you can use a single pole switch on the Lutron you bought if you can figure out which wires to use. Do you have a meter?

SOURCE: Lutron Dimmer Not Dimming But On/Off Works

The type of track heads you are using could be creating the problem. Are the lamps Par 20, Par 30 (screw in base) or MR-16 low voltage (push in base)? If the track head has a small (2"x4") box and uses MR-16 lamps then you need to use a dimmer specifically designed for ELECTRONIC LOW VOLTAGE. Incandescent lights (screw in base) and Electronic low voltage need a different signal to dim. Using a standard dimmer for electronic low voltage will work for a while, but then either the dimmer or the fixtures will go bad. If your lamps are incandescent or halogen you may have just had a bad dimmer. (Not common for Lutron products) but the part number you list should be good for 1000watts and should not be the issue.

Please see "Dimming Basics" under the helpful information tab for a better explanations of the two different styles of dimming. Hope this helps!

New dimmer switch not working

Hi -

The Lutron D600P is a preset single pole dimmer. Wiring is pretty straight forward as show in this diagram. Recheck wiring and if OK, continue below.

If power is present on both wires (black / red wires), power is being passed through the switch to the lamp and the light should be on. If not, try replacing the lamp.

Minimum recommended connected load is 40 watts. This switch is ONLY for use with filament type lamps - such as traditional tungsten, halogen, etc. It is NOT to control speed of Fan Motors, nor dimming of CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) energy saving types or other ballast operated lamps such as High (or Low) Pressure Sodium, Metal Halide, Fluorescent, etc. as this would create a high heat condition and could cause a fire.

Try to add a dimmer but we have 2 blacks and 1 red wire. Product has 2 black and 1 green. How to connect?

Usually this is indicative that you have a 3-way lighting circuit, but only a single-pole dimmer. For most lighting circuits, the red wire and one of the black wires are supposed to be run over to a second light switch. You need dimmer rated as a "3-way" in order for that to work. If you get stuck, I would call the manufacturer's tech support number at 1-800-523-9466. They're available 24/7 and it will not cost you anything.

I have two black wires in box attached to regular light switch & want to know if I can install a Skylark S-603PG single pole dimmer switch which has one black , one red&white, red and green wires

This is single-pole -or- 3-way dimmer
Manual shows on following link:
http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/0301107A.pdf

1) Manual says: The red/white wire is not used in a single-pole application. Twist a wire
nut over this wire for a single-pole application.
2) Green wire connects to bare ground wire. Or bare ground to bare ground.
3) Connect dimmer-red and dimmer-black to either insulated wire that came off of old switch

These in-wall devices stop working and need to be replaced from time to time.
There are no repair parts.
Generally dimmers don't last as long as ordinary light switch, because they are electronic instead of mechanical.

Lutron makes the widest selection of dimmers.

Use link above to identify dimmer.
For example Skylark dimmer.

Then google search for a replacement.
For example: single pole 600 watt lutron skylark dimmer
Or: 3-way 600 watt skylark dimmer
Lutron also makes 1800 watt dimmers for larger loads.

You said pendant lights blew out.
How many total watts were those lights?
Did you remove aluminum break-away fins on side of device to match wattage?

Front indicator can be pulled out to cut power to circuit.
This is called FASS switch.
Try pulling out FASS switch and then pushing it back to see if it re-sets device.
Click breaker on-off to see if it resets device.
You replaced a single-pole switch that has two wires plug ground wire.
Each wire from switch goes to either screw on MAW-600 so it's hard to go wrong there.
Bare copper goes to green ground screw.
Otherwise, it looks like tech support is next step: 1800-523-9466

My Lutron dimmer/lights suddenly will not turn on. all electricity works throughout the house. The green light that usually is lit on the panel is not on either. any suggestions?

Indicator light is OFF.
Either dimmer stopped working or power to dimmer is off.
Check if electricity is present inside box.
Check nearby electrical plug to see if everything nearby has power.
Swap dimmer with regular switch and see if lights turn ON.
Check dimmer wires: if wires to dimmer are pushed into 'quick connect' holes on back of dimmer, these wires can get loose.
If dimmer is connected by wire nut, sometimes a wire can pull loose.
If no electricity is inside the box, and breaker is ON, then there is a loose wire inside one of the boxes on that circuit and electrician has to track back until loose wire is discovered.

Replacement parts for in-wall devices are not made.
If new dimmer is necessary, consider lighting factors:
Total wattage of lights. New dimmer has watt rating.
Type of lights. Dimmers specify florescent or tungsten (incandescent) or both.
Single-pole and 3-way. If two dimmers control same lights, one is control dimmer, other is companion dimmer.

Lutron rania dimmer how does this connect to an existing 2 way system and what connections are required

The question is unclear.
Switches are single-pole or 3-way.
Single pole switches have 2 screws plus green ground screw.
3-way have 3 screws plus green ground screw.
I don't see Lutron rania dimmer

Identify your switch and your dimmer and add a comment.
I will look up the information.
