How to wire a 12 volt automatic bilge pump. In a boat.

Hopefully the float switch for the Bilge pump is under the engine not the pump motor. Having an electric motor under an engine is a fire or explosion hazard Find the float switch for the motor and follow the tubing back to the pump. A replacement pump should have instructions. Only the pump intake should be in an explosive environment.

Bilge pump on 1996 nitro bass boat inop

Check to make sure the fuse is good and you have power going to the switch and then to the wires (brown for positive and black for negative) in the bilge area using a 12 volt tester. If you have power to the brown wire while grounded to the black wire then the pump will need to be cleaned, have the impeller replaced or replace the pump. The pump is located in the rear compartment attached to a board mounted to the inside bottom of the boat at the center near the transom.

Connecting battaries for a Rascal Autogo

When you put the second battery in the case paying attention to polarity position, the longer wire will go to the top connector. If you have a voltmeter you can identify which wire has 12 volts on it. It should be the brown wire but verify anyway. This wire has to be connected to the NEGATIVE terminal of the second battery in order to get 24 volts to the scooter. The remaining wire connects to the positive terminal of the battery.

I have an 87 f150 with wiring problems. ometime it will crank, run a few minutes, and quit. The fuel pump(new) will cut off and the injectors won't work. Any ideas? Email hooverman692003@yahoo.com

Hello Hooverman.

There are quite a few items that are possible causes.
The EEC power relay is probably shutting down for some reason.
This relay, when shut down will turn off power supply to injectors, the fuel pump and a few other items.
This relay is mounted on the top of the left front fender under a plastic cover and has a brown base with a black top. The fuel pump relay is beside it and has a green base with a black top.
The large yellow wire into the power relay should have constant 12 volts positive power.
The white/light blue wire should have 12 volts positive power with key on.
The black wire is ground/negative.
When the key is on the red wire is activated to 12 volts positive.
Verify those circuits and you will find the problem.
Often I have found corroded splices in the yellow feed to the relay. You will need to open the harness out and trace back to find those splices. There are two of them. This corrosion will often cause intermittent connection.
If you need further advise on this problem please ask me in a comment here and I will return to assist you.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I'm trying to wire a 12v bilge manual pump to a

You run your hot wire to the switch (brown) and black wire to the pump (+ve connection). Then from the pump run another wire to the negative terminal of your battery. I used to use a toggle switch on mine, but I do not use a starter motor, still all the lights, radio and echo sounder are connected to it (via a junction box). The only item I fuse is my echo sounder.

Wiring on bilge pump

There's an installation manual available online. Black is negative ground; either brown or brown/white will turn on the pump. The intent is for a three way switch, connecting brown/white directly to positive 12 VDC while brown would go through an automatic switch (e.g., a float switch).
