It would be wise to have the machine cleaned & serviced. Do you have a manual for it? Did it come with oil at one time? I found a free manual at
http://homeappliance.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/singer/7442.html

You have to register (free)...choose to skip the popups (2)...and you can save the manual to your hard drive.

I checked the manual...you don't need to oil the machine...but page 61-63 shows cleaning...and it's basic. You take the two screws from the throat plate, remove the bobbin case & brush the inside of the machine bed out...I use a small artists plastic bristle brush, or a small childs tooth brush.

Hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Hi, thanks a lot. I don't know if it came with the oil, we assumed that it maybe needs oil (my father knew this from the old machines ;-) ) Again thank you very much for your quick answer!"

SOURCE: How do I take of the back cover on my Singer 2250 tradition?

These plastic machines are like computer cases. Get a thin bladed tool and wedge it between the sections... look for those "tab locks" and release them.

Good luck.

My sewing machine has stopped working, it was working ok , just a bit noisier than usual but now the needle wont move at all, even if i try to turn the wheel by hand

the machine may need oiling, check in your sewing machine manual to see about oiling it, it's also possible that the machine could have a damaged or broken part inside,,

How to oil singer model 413 sewing machine?

The best way that you can do this is to observe moving parts starting from the left; the needle arm and pressure arm. Then take off the top and watch the moving parts and oil the moving parts. Do the same underneath the machine. The main thing to remember is to make sure parts that are rubbing against each other have been oiled. There are many parts rotating so ensure the bearings are oiled. While you are doing this it is a good idea to clean the parts with a rag and qtips.

How do I oil my singer sewing machine

Hi, there are holes on the top of the machine that serve as oil holes. Use a machine oil (as thin as possible- thick oil is no good). Oil any moving parts that you can see. wipe off all excess oil,so as not to mess the material when you sew. Before threading machine, run the machine as though u are sewing ,fast then slow a few times, this will help to lube the machine. Should the machine be used after very long time it is wise to open side covers or any area that can be accessed and clean the mechanism inside with paraffin( this also helps parts that may be stuck to move freely). Do'nt forget to replace (rescrew) any panel or part that is taken out. safety first. All the best.

Oil

Most every machine has an oiling diagram in the instructions but if yours is gone then don't be afraid to take the covers loose and oil anywhere 2 moving metal parts come togeather but only a drop. Over-oiling will cause a heavy collection of lint and dirt possibly causing damage later on. Don't be afraid to remove the covers, just put them back on the way they came off. While your at it, give it a good vacuum, or blow and brush it out. Good luck.
