Question about Schlage BE365-CAM BE365CAM613 Oil Rubbed Bronze Electronic Security Keypad

1 Answer

The door knob (lever door knob to exterior fancy door) came off.

I know this is a schlage lock set but not sure of the type. This part of the lock set has no lock in it. It just functions as a nice door knob that looks cool for my front door. But the screws backed out of one part of the door and when I screwed it closed again, the door will no longer unlatch when you actuate the knob/lever.
I pulled it apart but cannot find the schematics for the innards anywhere. I realize they must go together in a specific way for the knob to work and after two hours playing with this thing it must be missing a spring--but don't see where it goes--or I've realized I must be missing a screw in my head. Can anyone help with this?

When you first tightened the screws, the mechanism may have been loose enough to allow the actuator bar the connects the inside knob to the outside lever to work loose. When you tightened it you may have jambed that tight so things didn't work. When you disassembled everything, you may have lost that part. The springs are usually integrated into the catch part and are not removeable. Sometimes it helps to take everything completely off the door including the catch that goes in the edge of the door. Then reassemble it on a table to see what works and what doesn't. If that doesn't help, take all the pieces into Lowes at the key desk and they will be glad to help you.

How do I get an old schlage door lever off. There are no screws.

There is a small slot on the stem of the interior knob. Use a screwdriver to suppress the spring loaded tab in the slot. Pull the knob off. If it is a keyed knob you will have to turn the knob slightly before releasing tab. A screwdriver driver will then remove the rosette from the door and expose the screws.

Is there a special tool for removing commercial locksets?

The spanner tool that Schlage includes with many of their new locks will work on the old ones. Search Google images for "schlage spanner wrench" and you'll see different styles, but they all can be made to work. You remove the inside knob (or lever handle, but let's say it's a knob) by sticking the pin end (or a straightened out large paperclip) into the hole in the knob towards the edge of the door and press in the springy retainer. While pressing in the retainer, pull the knob away from the door. If the pin is all the way in, the knob won't move away more than about 3/32", so after it starts moving, remove the pin and the knob should come off the rest of the way. If the inside knob has a keyhole, then you need to turn the key about 90 degrees, or as far as it will go, before the retainer will move. If you don't have a key, then pick it, or drill the pins so it will turn. If you don't care what happens to the old lock because you are going to replace it, you can cut off the inner knob with a hacksaw. Cut as close to the rose as possible. Once you have the knob off, use the spanner to remove the inside rose trim, and then pull the lock out of the door from the outside.

Our schlage lock with thumbturn on inside and keyed on outside. When unlock inside, knob turns freely as if it is really unlocked but if I close door, I get locked out. Please help

Be sure the outside knob is unlocked before closing the door.
Schlage locks do not lock the inside knob or lever. After releasing the turn button, also turn the inside lever or knob, then check the outside knob.
What model of lock is this?

Re-assemble a kwikset front door lever and knob type latch

Since the exterior side of the lock only has a keypad and no lever, I'm not sure what you mean by the "outside lever". Here is a clear, easy to follow video of the installation. Please carefully review each aspect of your installation against it to see if you can spot an installation mistake:
