This surge protector takes the power cables of the TV and DVD player. In addition, it will take the coax cable in and has a coax cable out for surge protection on your cable provider's incoming cable.

Performing a power reset
1. Turn off the television.
2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
5. Turn on the television.
How to establish an HDMI connection between a TV and other device.
Follow the steps below if the HDMI® connection between your TV and other device is not working:
1. Make sure both the TV and other device are turned on.
2. While turned on, unplug the power cords for the TV and device from the electrical outlet.
3. Disconnect the HDMI cables from the TV and other product.
4. Wait 60 seconds.
5. While the HDMI cables are disconnected, plug the power cords back into the electrical outlet.
6. Turn on the TV.
7. Re-connect the HDMI cables.
8. Turn on the HDMI-connected product.

The TV should now detect the HDMI signal from the connected device and operate normally. If there is still a problem, disconnect the HDMI cable from both products and then reconnect it in the opposite direction. In some situations this has been reported to resolve connection issues.

Where can I get all the connections, wire connecters for this?

All you may need is an HDMI cable. Connect from the DVD/Blu-ray player to an HDMI Input on your tv or receiver. You may also want to get a surge protector and plug your player, tv, etc., into it.

Check with a local electronics store (Best Buy, hh Gregg, etc.).

Why did cable box hdmi connection blow out my tv in power outage??

Yes it can happen. Though you can't prevent this 100% you can reduce the chance by getting a surge protector with coaxial protection as well. Lots of times the surge comes through the coax. Here is and example. http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-8-Outlet-Protector-Coaxial-Protection/dp/B000IF9QW0

Plug it in and nothing happens. no lights or noise. The two surge protection outlets draw power, the other six don't.

Unplug the surge protector (and all units plugged into it) and take it apart - you'll see how the outlets are connected to provide a closed circuit when on. Make sure all connections are secure and carefully put the unit back together.
You should be able to use all units plugged into it.

Lightning definitely sounds like the issue. We had our computer plugged into a surge protector last year but our computer got fried. We purchased a Belkin surge protector which is much better. The smallest one they sell I believe is 6 outlets for $50 BUT they back that with a $50,000 guarantee. If something fails due to their product, they will reimburse you for up to $50K,and I already called just in case, you do not need receipts. They make up to 12 outlets and that has a $300K guarantee. We live in the lightning capital of the country,Tampa area, and so far no problems. Also,it's not really good to hold down the button to force it to come on because the clicking probably means it's trying to save itself, but at this point it doesn't much matter. The TV will need to be looked at.I wish I could help more but the TV makers won't let me as a consumer, find any parts prices or diagrams.Sorry , but good luck!

Have an insignia tv that won't power on...was off..made popping noise...won't power on. checked power in both the surge protector it was in & wall. all other items plugged into surge protector work....

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

I just got a 1000 watt home system what kind of cord do i need to hook up my system to hear my speakers through my tv

You will need to connect a RCA Audio Cable (see link to image below) from an audio output jack on the rear of your receiver to the audio input jack on your TV. Be VERY careful as to keep volume down as most all TV speakers are geared to take low inputs. With your 1000w receiver, it is always tempting to crank it up and end up blowing your speakers.
