We used water softener pellets from Fleet Farm and we spread them around the outside of the pool, basically walking in a circle around the whole pool. In between each bag (we had to add 160 pounds), I used a squeegie thing to help stir the water, the pellets dissolved almost instantly which was great! Good luck!

I'm getting salt lo msg.brand new unit, brand new water, 810 pounds of salt for ten days

Have you tested for salt content in the pool. Most salt generators require between 3000 and 5000 ppm of salt for it to operate correctly. How many gallon pool? 810 pounds of salt should make it around 30,000 gallons?

Have a intex 18x48 above ground pool, how much salt to add to it for the first time

If you have an Easy Set pool, should be around 5500 gallons, then the initial salt add should be approximately 135lbs...

If you have an Circular Metal Frame pool, should be around 6400 gallons, then the initial salt add should be approximately 160lbs...

Make sure you only run the pump for 24 hrs to properly dissolve the salt, then you can set your chlorinator to desired time... Start high and work your way down... 10 hrs pump and 8 hrs chlorinate...
Check your chlorine level after the first two days and see if it starts to climb above 3ppm, if it does, lower your cycle time until you can maintain the 3ppm level...Hope this helps you?
Good luck and enjoy your pool!!!

Your pool should be between 5000 and 5500 gallons= between 125 to 135lbs of salt... They come in 40lb bags... Your salt PPM should also be 2500 and 3000.. Test strip reading at 6.2 to 6.6
Add your salt by spreading around the pool and run your pump only for 24 hrs to properly disolve the salt.. Then you can set and start your chlorinator... Good luck and enjoy your pool...

Brand new! Never had a pool before. I find no instructions in the manual for adding salt. We bought salt and on the bag it said to add to skimmer. When we did it stopped up the filter immediately upon...

Spread around the edge of pool with a cup. Make sure it's pool salt and not rock salt or pellets. Will take some time to do, large pools will take up to 350 lbs of salt and careful not to get into eyes. Run pump only for 24 hours to properly dissolve and then you can program your unit. If large pool, start at 10 to 12 hours pump with 8 to 10 hours chlorinating.Check daily for chlorine level and adjust from there... Good luck!

Ad salt right in the pool water. Filter and brush around to disolve. Do not try to generate chlorine for 12 hours or so.

Excessive Scale build up on the Chlorine generator Plates. I Have to clean them every day.

Your water is WAY out of whack ... Please check all the chemicals including: Chlorine (ideal is 4 ppm), pH (should be 7.4), Alk (should be 100), Cyanuric Acid (outside pool only)(should be 60 to 80), Calcium (should be 350). Check the balance (see your pool supply company for the procedure to check). Get your salt to around 3400 ppm ...

If your calcium is high, the only way to reduce it is add water with calcium of a known low content of Calcium. If you have too much salt ... you will, again, have to dump water to get rid of the salt.

What about metals? Have you removed the metal from your water? Let the chlorine go to zero and add a sequestering agent ... follow the instrucitons on the bottle. You should add water only through a "bobby sox" filter to keep metals to a minimum.

I hope this helps you ... thanks for using

My generator keeps flashing low salt so I have added salt to the point the water is just about as salty as the ocean, and it is still showing low salt. What is the problem?

Have your water tested professionally at your pool supply place. You should have between 2400 and 4000 ppm ... ideal is 3400 salt. It could be that you have too much ... have it checked before you do anything else. If you have too much ... you will have to dump some water and put in fresh ...

Thanks for using

How much salt should be added to a 27' by 52" pool? The manual only goes up to 24'

A rough estimate is that you have about 10,500 gallons of water depending on how full you have your pool

This translates to about 200-250 pounds of salt

To be certain get a salt test kit ( costs about 11 dollars for 10 tests )
you want to be as close to 3000ppm as possible

Much more and you will taste a lot of salt less than 2500ppm and your unit will not generate enough chlorine

Start with 200 pounds spreading it around the pool. Now brush it around to partially disolve.
Most important now is to filter/circulate the water for 24 hours before checking the ppm

Although it may look disolved after a few hours it is NOT

if after checking if your salt ppm is not where I told you add 15 pounds at a time until it comes up or drain 2-4 inches and add fresh water to bring it down repeat as needed to reach 3000ppm

Now you can start producing chlorine

Remeber though contrary to the directions for intex the total hours of run time depend on # of swimmers how hot it was that day, rain, and sun light. You should start with the average in the book but adjust to what works for your swimming habits and weather

Good luck

I have a intex pool 13ft by 36 in. I dont know how to mix chemicals

Salt - spread over pool - sweep in
Acid - mix in bucket (adding Acid to water!!) then spread over top of pool
Bi-Carb - mix in bucket then spread over top of pool
Pool Clarifier - mix in bucket then spread over top of pool.

For amounts - ask your pool guy (or go to pool shop for free testing and they will tell you amounts)

I am having to add salt daily to keep salt level at 3000. Why is salt level not holding longer?

you possibly have a leak in the pool. Friend of mine was dumping a 100lbs of salt in his pool each week. Problem solved when they found out he had a crack (causing 4-5 inches of water to leak in a 24 hour period). This allowed alot of the salt to leave the pool. What remained was used by his saltwater system to create chlorine.
