Question about MSI GE Series GE70 2OE-017US Intel Core i7-4700MQ 17.3" Win 8

Are there essential partitions that should not be wiped?

Just bought this laptop and two mSATA SSDs. Booted up, made the 5 recovery dvds. Installed said SSDs and configured to raid0 in bios. Currently installing WIN7 to the raid partion. Now here comes the Q: I am planning to reformat the HDD and use it as my big installs/storage drive and was wondering if there are any of the wide array of partitions it has on it, courtesy of MSI, that are essential and should not be wiped clean?

The best way to find out is take out one hdd and see if it starts up.if not then do the same to the other hdd.what ever one starts your windows with out the other hdd in,then yes you can format the one that does not have any windows on it.
mind you the second hdd could have your back up installed on it.
i would make sure to do a full windows image before i format any hdd.

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

Go to
and after selecting your Windows, download the drivers for your notebook.
Alternatively, clean the CD in + way. Means, up-down and right-left way and not circular we mostly do. Clean it with a soft cloth.

SOURCE: bought new msi laptop and

This is the down side to OEM computer is that when the newer operating systems come out alot of times they will not give support for that operating systems on all computers. However if you know the part numbers it is easy to file the drivers you need. Also alot of time if you look at the older version of the computer you have you can get the drivers you need as they used the same parts.

Let me know the make and model of your notebook and I will see what I can find for you.

SOURCE: hi, i have a msi U100

Without a CD drive this is going to be virtually impossible to repair. You need to boot from CD with some type of recovery disk and access the MBR (master boot record) to get it back to booting properly. Sadly I must suggest you take it somewhere that has expertise with this sort of thing as it is extremely complicated if you've never done it before. These netbook style computers can be a true nightmare when they have issues! :(
So sorry about that Tim

Factory restore

The following information comes from the Panasonic Website:

Recovery DVDs are available by mail for select Toughbook® products. Windows® XP back up service is only available to customers who purchased Panasonic computers with XP downgrade rights. Windows XP Backup Image and Windows 7 Recovery DVDs restore a PC to its original factory image. The standard Panasonic factory image includes the Windows operating system and all drivers/applications originally installed by Panasonic.

Most 2011 models of Panasonic Toughbook computers now have a Recovery partition on the hard drive instead of a Recovery DVD included in the laptop box. The only exceptions are the Toughbook F9, H2 and U1 Ultra which will continue to ship with a Windows 7 Recovery DVD. Besides restoring the computer to its original factory image, the Recovery Partition can also be used to load 64-bit Windows 7 Professional (32-bit ships by default from Panasonic).

You can order the Recovery Disks here:

How do you remove the recovery partition in windows 7

To remove the partition, you can use a tool called GParted. GParted can be downloaded and booted to and you can remove the partition using that tool. I will warn you that this is an advanced tool and could potentially corrupt data. Backup important files before proceeding.

Also if you have an OEM Windows 7 disk, you can boot to that and install Windows from scratch. When it boots, it will give you option to change the partition table on the drive which means you can remove it. This process will completely wipe your system and the partition, leaving you with a clean windows install. Always backup important files before proceeding.

Also know that the recovery partition is put there for a reason! Manufacturers create recovery partitions to include factory restore files. If you wipe out the recovery partition and do not have backup factory recovery disks, you will have no way to restore your PC to factory specs. You can still restore it from an OEM windows disk, it just won't be loaded with the factory bloatware...which isn't necessarily a bad thing!

When you power on your laptop, start tapping F8, choose Repair Your Computer if it's listed. If it's not listed then try using the recovery partition. To access the recovery partition, there should be a prompt when powering on about what key to press to use the Recovery Partittion. Once there just follow the prompts thru to the end. Choose Restore to Factory Image or Factory Settings. If you can't access your recovery partition, then find the recovery DVDs they usually distribute with newly purchased computers and run those discs. Please leave feedback on the information you've been given.

Usually, pre-loaded hp laptops have an utility to create (only once) recovery disks. U will need a few high quality DVDs or up to 20 CDs. The laptop must be connected to AC power during this process. The how-to is in Ur documentation that came with the laptop (probably in some pdf document). Usually, the procedure to create set of recovery discs is as follows (maybe it changes according to model): 1. Select Start > All Programs > Recovery Manager > Recovery Manager. Recovery Manager Opens. 2. Click Advanced Options. 3. Click Recovery disc creation, and then click Next. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Pls, send the laptop exact model, so I'll be able to verify this procedure.
BTW, did U considered use of some partition manager to resize the partition?

Hp recovery

If the main issue is missing drivers you can either download those directly from HP or use a program like Fresh Diagnostics or Aida32 to identify each piece of hardware on the system and then go to each manufacturer's website and download the drivers specific to the hardware.

Does the fj270 recovery disk from ebay make the computer like new with a blank harddrive?

I am assuming you are going back to XP?
You will run into one major problem with this process, Vista is based of Windows NT which uses a NTFS file system. XP uses the old file system of FAT32, so just wiping the hard drive probably won't work. You will have to go into your partition and re-partition your hard drive before you intall the recovery disk.
If the recovery disk is designed for your computer then yes it will restore it to all factory defaults (including drivers and software that originally came with it.
If you are not sure how to do the partition then let me know I will try to guide you through it.

Acer 5050

by default acer 5050 have 3 partitions
1. OS partition (C)
2. Data (D)
3. Recovery partition (hidden).

If you deleted recovery parition, you can't recover your C parition using Alt+F10. Your only option is recovery from cd/DVD recovery that you created. if you didn't create the cd/dvd, you can call acer support to buy the recovery dvd.
