Yes, you can fix this yourself. Easiest way is to take off the top cover, the spitoon is located under where the ink cartridges rest. Move them away and use a plastic spoon to remove the sludge built up from normal operation. You will be surprised how much gets put in there. Put the cover back on and your set.

Dont get it on your hands, its hard to wash off :-)

Canon i965 printer

First ensure it is not a cartridge problem, try a replacement.
It does not look like a print head problem, it can be a driver problem or a logic fault in the printer.

My Canon i965 is not working but I get a message that says "the used Ink tank is full" and the orange light is flashing all the time -

Canon printers have a waste recepticle bin that catches the overflow ink which is used to lubricate the print heads. The print heads need to be primed to stay wet for the printer to work on command. When the overflow tank is full, you get the warning notice that you mentioned in your question on Fixya. It means the tank needs to be removed & a new empty one should be installed in its place in order for printing to continue.

To solve this issue, you need to contact Canon's customer service department. You can request service on the printer & have them replace the waste recepticle, or you can order the part with replacement instructions and complete the task yourself. Their are disposal instructions that need to be followed for the used ink in the tank and Canon can provide them when you contact them.

Good luck!

Waste Ink Absorber Full: Can I fix this myself or do I need to take the printer in (or replace it?) If I can fix (or empty it), where is it and how do I access it?

Waste pad ink or waste ink absorber can be found inde the machine. Open the cover and you can see the plastic tank with foam, and replace the foam. goodluck

Canon I965 waste tank almost full - how do I clean/empty or clear

You will have to get it replaced by a Canon agent.
Phone Canon for nearest agent
Just had mine done cost £50.00 +VAT

The codes on line to reset counters will not solve the problem and eventualy ink will leak from the printer.

MY Pixma IP90v has an error message waste tank full. Can I fix that myself or do I have to take to a repair station?

It's time to replace 3's WASTE INK ABSORBER KIT & reset waste ink counter.
The WASTE INK ABSORBER KIT is approx. USD10/pcs
You should send it to service centre

Waste tank is full, How do fix it, can I clean it myself?

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink full" error.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you. Once they are replaced, it'll be functional again.

I get an error message on Canon i960 printer that tells me the waste ink tank full. How can I empty this myself?

Read it all here.
Scroll about half the page, to:
WASTE TANK ALMOST FULL or FULL ERROR MESSAGE PROBLEMThere is explained how to get rid of the error message very easy, and how to clean the waste ink pad manually. The latter seems not to be necessary, though.
