SOURCE: Start up problem

The problem that you describe is caused by the in-tank check valve and/ or the unloader at the pressure switch. When the compressor cycles off the pressure switch releases the air that remains in the air line thru a small valve. There is a 1/4 " plastic tube extending from the check valve to the switch. Listen for the release of air as soon as the compressor stops. There is a small metal tab that pushes on the unloader valve that may need to be adjusted. The motor does not have enough power to start pumping if there is air/backpressure in the air line. If these parts are working correctly then check the value of the start capacitor and use meter to measure. The cap should test within 95 % of stated value. Parts are available at www.chpower.com. Enjoy

SOURCE: Compressor will not start

It is a good sign that the motor turns freely with and without air. That indicates that you have good bearings and that the intank check valve is in good condition. Next you should check the capacitors and the condition of the windings. Some motors have start and run capacitors and others only have run cap. Remove from the circuit and test with meter having cap. test setting. Most shops will test them for free. The cap should test within 95% of stated ( uf ) value. Replace as needed. Finally check that the flyball switch at rear inside of motor is functioning correctly. At rest, switch is at start winding, then a split second after start, it shifts to run winding. Check contacts are not stuck and that switch is working and lastly that the winding are the color of new penny. Good luck.

SOURCE: Model WL611200 30 gal oilless compressor will not start

It could be a couple of things. First and foremost check the plug and make sure the continuity is good for the wires. I have found sometimes that cords get smashed and the wires will be making contact inside the plastic sheathing. Sometimes you cant see where the problem is visually. Remove the cord from the switch and test the continuity with a meter. Check across the poles to see if there is a connection there that shouldn't be. If there is continuity across poles get a new cord.

If your cord is good then it could be your switch. There may have been arching that caused damage to your switch. Check for burnt marks and any wires that are touching that shouldn't be.

Check all wiring to make sure it is correct.

Lastly, your motor may be stuck. Check motor and wiring.

SOURCE: Compressor trips breaker on re-load

if it has been an on going problem i would suspect that your power cord is too small, try a outlet closer to the breaker system.or get a bigger cord if one is used.is it maintaining pressure in the tank?if not a check valve is defective, you should hear air leaking if this is the case.let us know.

Hi hbkopen31...
Your problem sounds like it is the motor giving a problem.

Unhook the belt from the compressor and run the motor by itself...check the compressor to make sure it is not dragging the motor too much making the amps go up and tripping the breaker..
If the motor runs with the belt off of the compressor, then let it run for at least an hour, then put the belt back on and try it again...if it trips again, then replace/rebuild the motor as it is faulty.
Also check the motor capacitor sometimes they fail..
If the motor still trips the breaker after removing the compressor belt..replace/repair the motor as it is faulty.

try running up this motor when its not installed on the compressor,, if it still blows the trips the motor is faulty,, if it runs ok, but hums when reconted to the compressor the compressor if far to tight for the motor to turn the compressor,,,you can not reset the points in a breaker trip they trip at a set curent if the motor is pulling more amps than the trip is set for it will trip the trip to turn off the curent, the motor will pull far more amps than it should if its over loaded thats why its humming its trying to spin up it but cant so it just keeps pulling more and more amps till the trip cuts out

Try plugging something of similar amperage into same outlet, see what happens. If breaker trips, check wires in outlet box.
If not, start checking wiring in compressor, from plug back - ALL of wiring,
And scrutinize connections! Good luck! Joe.

Kenmore upright freezer model 29238 keeps tripping switch

If the compressor actually runs for more than a second or two its likely the compressor is bad. Some models had a 5 year warranty and some ten years on the compressor only. The replacement of the compressor is likely beyond your abilities unless you are a service technician.

A typical cost for such a repair can be more than the freezer may have cost you if nothing is under warranty. Good Luck.

there is a process to go thru for checking the unit to see which part is causing the problem. first thing, listen to the compressor when it first tries to start. if the compressor does nothing and the breaker trips then you will have to check the compressor. turn off the power to unit.
remove the cover on the compressor where the wires enter the compressor, remove the wires from the compressor you will have 2 terminals that are sealed into the compressor check with a ohm meter and from one terminal to ground and see if you get a reading you should not get a reading to ground on either one of these two terminals. if you do your compressor is bed

My compressor won't come on and the trip breaker on the compressor keeps going off and stopping the machine from running?

Sometimes when you have too long of an extention cord hooked to a compressor, it can cause the breaker to trip due to too much resistance in the power line. If you are using an extension, try to plug directly to oultlet or get a thicker gauge cord.
