There are more problems possibly occurring, than those already listed.
but I would agree, if you are not that diligent, or not really a DIY'r, call a pool Service tech!
That pilot is staying on, is a good thing, could be only a minor problem - try thoroughly cleaning your filter, and make sure all baskets are clean. If heater still not firing...

  • Could be a weak pilot generator, not providing enough Milivolts to operate the rest of the safety sensors/switches.
  • Possibly a bad gas valve - main valve not opening for burners
  • A bad pressure switch
  • The fusible link, may have burned
  • A hi limit is open = bad hi limit there are two of them
  • Might also be a bad heat control assembly - thermostat
  • Is there proper Fuel Supply? Is valve open?
A good tech will find the problem in a few minutes - might be worth the service call charge?
but... If you want to continue troubleshooting, return in this posts comment section. Hope this helped?

Did you turn the control from pilot to on. Second water flow through heater if low on no water flow burner won't ignite. These are the simple checks.if this does not work save yourself a lot of head ache and call your gas company.

Laars pool heater's burner wont stay lit

Check the burner, the holes may be plugged, especially at the beginning of the season. Same happens to the pilot light tube. Spiders love to make nests inside those small holes clogging everything up.

Pilot won't stay on

Burners don't have anything to do with the problem of pilot not lighting. Is the problem that flame will not 'stay' lit? Or you can't even get a flame to ignite? If former: possible bad pilot generator or bad gas valve. If latter, possible bad gas valve or no fuel to ignite.

Pool Heater Light main burner then goes out

take millivolt reads while main burner is on.i suspect you will see a drop in voltage until you get to point where it will no longer operate burner(around 200mv).if this is the case you probably have poor pilot characteristics due to dirty pilot, pilot out of adjustment ,obstruction or insufficient gas pressure
