Raise the top cover, look down just beyond the keyboard you will see two flat connectors each about 1.5" wide.

Input devises are not supported

If you are useing USB mouse and keyb, you may activate the support for legacy / USB keyboard and mouse in the BIOS. The less problematic way is to use the PS2 mouse and keyboard.

Good luck!

How to remove keyboard

These are the steps you need to take to Remove the Keyboard for D631 Dell.:
  1. Remove the hinge cover.NOTICE: The hinge cover is fragile and can be damaged if extreme force is used. Be careful when removing the hinge cover.
  2. Open the display all the way (180 degrees) so that the display rests flat on your work surface.
NOTICE: To avoid damaging the hinge cover, do not lift the cover on both sides simultaneously. Removing the hinge cover in a different way than described may cause the plastic to break.

NOTICE: The keycaps on the keyboard are fragile, easily dislodged, and time-consuming to replace. Be careful when removing and handling the keyboard.

3. Remove the three screws at the top of the keyboard.

NOTE: Lift the keyboard carefully to ensure that you do not pull on the keyboard cable.

4. Ease the edges of the keyboard out of the small detents on the sides, then slide the keyboard slightly forward to free the keyboard tabs from the palm rest.

5. Rotate the top of the keyboard forward and away from the display, and lay it upside-down on the palm rest to gain access to the keyboard connector.

6. If the keyboard cable is held in place by a locking arm next to the keyboard connector, carefully spread the retaining bracket away from the connector so that you can pivot the locking arm upward to release the cable.

7. Pull up on the pull tab to disconnect the keyboard cable connector from the keyboard connector on the system board.

Check to see if the ribbon is lifting up, if not there is a black gear on the right side of the printer wiggle it back and forth until it will move. If it is lifting put a multi part form a nd see if it prints on the copies if not the plastic on the print solinoid is probably broken they are available but a bit trigky to install.

pin function

1 data (yellow)
2 (reserved)
3 gnd (blk)
4 +5v (red)
5 clock(white)
6 (reserved)
try to interchange wire from pin 1 and pin 5 if doesn't work.

Dvd writter not working

if the device is set up as a master and not a slave device it may be interfering with the hard drive. check the jumpers on the back of the device. If it's plugged into the same cable as the hard drive it must be a slave device. Otherwise, check your bios upon bootup to see if you it's trying to boot from the device instead of from the hard drive.

You probably need a new keyboard. Check and make sure the 2 keyboard connectors are secure in the main board. Open the top cover and look down by the keyboard and you will see the connectors. Keyboard costs about $ 75.00 to repair. Plus labor for a repairman to replace it.
