Most likely the gear skipped out of position. You have to unscrew the case. Remember or draw the spring position for the handle/switch. Then unscrew 4 screws that attache the blade assembly to the gearbox. Take off the cover (remember the position of the small dent in the cover). you will see where the gear engages the motor worm screw. If you cannot turn the plastig gear shroud, the gears are out of mesh. use a small screwdriver to free the gears from each other. Reassemble, lather, rinse and repeat.

Good luck.

Hit fence with blade and now it wont move

Without direct exposure to this model, check the parts catalog, there is more than likely some type of coupler between the engine and blade assembly. Usually they are added for exactly this situation. Worse case senerio, the gearbox for the blades is "toast".

I have a 22inch Craftsman Hedge Trimmer, Model No. 315.81591. When trimming a hedge near a chain-link fence, one of the steel links from the fence got caught between the blade guard and the cutter blade. ...

The likely issue is the gear pin has been sheared. The part is no longer available from Craftsman. (P/N from sears: 616255-001)

I had a similar issue with a similar electric trimmer. I removed the old pin and used a split pin and ground it down to the proper size. It's now worked for about 2 years just fine. This requires complete dis-assembly.

Hi! There is power to the unit....the blades don't move.

Had the same problem: when I turn on the trimmer, the motor would hum but the blades won't move.
What I did:
1. Sprayed a ton of wd40 between the blades
2. Took a screwdriver and kinda wedged it between the blades to get them unstuck. Also removed some guck between the blades.
And it worked!

Yes it can but you need to find what jammed. I would check for a bent shaft or a wrapped cable. Good luck

Describe your Black & Decker Hedge Hog

You may have a piece of metal between the moving blade and the stationary one. Also the motor may have been at the top of the stroke when it stopped. You may be able to "force" the blade to move a little. This may free it enough to work.

Cam does not engage blade

I had this problem with mine. I ended up disassembling the two halves of the trimmer, then reseating the cam. The cam was jammed when I caught the blades on a chain link fence. Good luck and patience.
