Black screen after changing resolution

Try setting your resolution back to the way it was and see what happens.

Maybe your monitor or video card is bad.

To isolate the problem try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays and works ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the Borrowed monitor does the same thing as your original monitor, then the video card inside the computer is bad.

My pc has bad resolutions

Hook a external monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture okay! the problem is in the LCD panel display, but if both screens show the same symptoms it is the video graphics card that is defective usually built into the motherboard. Try to lower resolution on the screen to see if it will improve video quality.

Monitor comes on for a few seconds when I press the power button then switches off

this would mostlikely be due to bad resolution. Reboot into safe mode then lowert he refresh and resolution of the screen to a standard low resolution
then reboot to normal
increase the resolution slowly til you get to a level high enough for you that is compatible with the monitor

What if the monitor will not display what is the problem...?

It could be a few things:
1. The monitor is bad (try it on another computer)
2. Your video card is bad (try another computer on your monitor)
3. Your resolution is set to a resolution not suppotred by your monitor.(reset your resolution by getting into safe mode.
THose are a few of the main reasons why you might not get a display on your monitor.
