No spark firing


Hi Ralph, on twin cams the CKP sensor needs compression to send correct signal to the ICM/ECM, make sure both spark plugs are in heads and use a grounded third plug to check for spark or hold spark plug cable close to spark plug in head. If still not getting spark the usual suspects are:
1. Fouled spark plugs.
2. Battery voltage below 8.7 volts, loose or broken battery cables especially ground cable to frame.
3. Loose connection at ignition coil or plug between ignition sensor and module.
4. Spark plug cables in bad condition, shorting / leaking, spark plug cable connections loose.
5. Faulty ignition coil or ignition / electronic module
6. Failed CKP, CMP, MAP or BAS sensor.
7. Faulty ignition switch.

How to Test Spark Plugs in Audi A6 car?


1) Test the spark plug ignition. For that disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
2) Then touch the spark plug wire close to a metal surface of the car. Then spin the key in ignition switch. If you will see a spark or hear a crackling noise. This means the wire to the spark plug has voltage in it.
3) If there is no spark when you crack the engine it means that a spark plug wire is dead.
4) Check out all the battery cable, ignition wires and coil wires are hooked up properly to their points.
5) If any of the battery cable, ignition wires and coil wires is loose then this can also relate to no spark.
6) But if all the battery cable, ignition wires and coil wires are properly connected then its time to replace the spark plugs.

Anyone have the firing order diagram for a 2011 dodge nitro 4.0 liter v6? Also how do I get to the spark plugs on the drivers side? I can't figure it out!!!


Here ya go
Each individual spark plug is located under each ignition coil. Each individual ignition coil must be removed to gain access to each spark plug See: Ignition Coil\Service and Repair\Ignition Coil - Removal

  1. Remove necessary air filter tubing at throttle body.
  2. Prior to removing ignition coil, spray compressed air around coil base at cylinder head.
  3. Prior to removing spark plug, spray compressed air into cylinder head opening. This will help prevent foreign material from entering combustion chamber.
  4. Remove spark plug from cylinder head using a quality socket with a rubber or foam insert. Also check condition of ignition coil O-ring and replace as necessary.
  5. Inspect spark plug condition

Instructions

Verifying the Spark
1

Remove the upper and side fairings, using a 4 mm Allen wrench to unscrew the fairing bolts. Unlock and remove the rider's seat, using the ignition key.

Pull the fuel lines off of the fuel valve under the left side of the fuel tank. Unscrew the pair of bolts from the base of the fuel tank, using a 10 mm socket. Pull the fuel tank to the rear of the motorcycle to remove it..

Pull the cables off of the two spark plugs on the right side of the motor. The spark plug cable furthest to the right is connected to the right ignition coil, while the second cable is connected to the left ignition coil. Unscrew the spark plugs from the motor, using a spark plug socket. Plug the ignition cables back onto the removed spark plugs.

Hold the spark plugs against the motor and start the motorcycle for a few seconds. Observe the gap between the electrode at the tip of both spark plugs for spark. Ideally, the spark should have a bright, blue appearance.

Replace the spark plugs with new DR8E spark plugs, if no spark is present. Repeat the test. Replace the corresponding ignition coil if there is still no spark present at the spark plugs' electrodes.

Proceed to Section 2 for further diagnosis, or reassemble the motorcycle following the reverse method of removal.
Testing the Windings

Remove the suspect ignition coil from the motorcycle's frame, using a 10 mm socket. Unplug the coil's cables from the remaining spark plug in the motor and from the spark plug removed in Section 1. Unplug the motorcycle's wiring harness connector from the back of the ignition coil. Remove the remaining ignition coil, if needed, using the same procedure.

Set your multimeter to read an R X 1 resistance range, using the meter's settings dial.

Measure the ignition coil's primary winding at the terminal that connects to the motorcycle's wiring harness, using your multimeter. Touch the meter's red probe to the coil's positive (+) terminal and the black probe to the coil's negative (-) terminal. Take note of the measurement on the meter's display. Replace the ignition coil if its primary winding has a resistance measurement less than 3 ohms or greater than 5 ohms.

Set your multimeter to read an R X 1,000 resistance range, using the meter's settings dial.

Measure the ignition coil's spark plug cables, using your multimeter. Touch the meter's probes to the metal connectors within the cable's end caps. Take note of the resistance measurement on the meter's display, indicated in ohms. Replace the ignition coil if the cables have a resistance measurement less than 25,000 ohms or greater than 45,000 ohms.

Reinstall the ignition coil if its primary winding and spark plug cables are within the specified resistance range, using the reverse method of removal. Replace the entire ignition coil if either the primary winding or the spark plug cables are within specification, as the ignition coil and its cables are a combined assembly.

Reassemble the motorcycle following the reverse method of removal. Connect the left ignition coil's cables to the pair of spark plugs in the middle of the motor's cylinder (#2 and #3), while the right coil's cable connect to the spark plugs on the sides of the cylinder (#1 and #4).

93 sportster only fires on 1 side of coil

Changed fuel pump. getting fuel to engine. but will not start.


Check for spark. Maybe a crankshaft position sensor is bad or a module.

This spark tester is the easiest to use just place it on a plug wire and the spark voltage is detected and the bulb on the top will flash with each pulse 91052p10.jpg
The best way to perform this procedure is to use a spark tester (available at most automotive parts stores). Three types of spark testers are commonly available. The Neon Bulb type is connected to the spark plug wire and flashes with each ignition pulse. The Air Gap type must be adjusted to the individual spark plug gap specified for the engine. The last type of spark plug tester looks like a spark plug with a grounding clip on the side, but there is no side electrode for the spark to jump to. The last two types of testers allows the user to not only detect the presence of spark, but also the intensity (orange/yellow is weak, blue is strong).
  1. Disconnect a spark plug wire at the spark plug end.
  2. Connect the plug wire to the spark tester and ground the tester to an appropriate location on the engine.
  3. Crank the engine and check for spark at the tester.
  4. If spark exists at the tester, the ignition system is functioning properly.
  5. If spark does not exist at the spark plug wire, perform diagnosis of the ignition system using individual component diagnosis procedures.

Ignition Coil Testing
  1. Remove suspect coil.
  2. Disable fuel pump by disconnecting inertia switch electrical connector.
  3. Reconnect the ignition coil electrical connector to the coil.
  4. Install spark tester 303-D307 (D81P-6666-A) or the equivalent.
  5. Crank engine while observing the tester.
  6. If a blue-white spark is not observed replace coil.

  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe if interfering.

How do you replace the spark plugs on a 1998 2.7 Intrepid?


Hi,
REMOVAL
Always remove the ignition coil assembly by grasping at the spark plug boot, turning the assembly 1/2 turn and pulling straight back in a steady motion.
  • Prior to removing the spark plug, spray compressed air around the coil area and spark plug.
  • Remove electrical connector from ignition coil.
On 3.5L engines, it is necessary to loosen the screws by alternating back and forth. Do not lose the spacers under the coil when loosening the screws.
  • Remove 2 fasteners from ignition coil.
  • Remove ignition coil assembly.
  • Remove the spark plug using a quality socket with a rubber or foam insert.
  • Inspect the spark plug condition.
INSTALLATION
Always remove the ignition coil assembly by grasping at the spark plug boot, turning the assembly 1/2 turn and pulling straight back in a steady motion.
  • To avoid cross threading, start the spark plug into the cylinder head by hand.
  • 3.5L engines tighten spark plugs to 28 N·m (20 ft. lbs.) torque, 2.7L engine tighten spark plugs to 17.6 N·m (13 ft. lbs.).
  • Install ignition coil assembly onto spark plug.
  • Install coil screws and tighten: 2.7L engine to 6.2 N·m (55 in. lbs.), 3.5L engines to 6.7 N·m (60 in. lbs.).
  • Connect the electrical connector.

The blower stalled after running for 15min.it is getting gas,i cleaned the carb+ replaced the gas filter.the air cleaner is clean and i replaced the spark plug.i seem to be getting a very weak spark.any...


Hello . If you have a weak spark it could be the ignition coil that needs adjustment or a bad ignition coil . To find the ignition coil simply follow the spark plug wire . To readjust the coil get a piece of paper , loose the bolts on the coil and put the paper between the coil and the flywheel (higher part of the flywheel or magneto) tight the bolts and remove the paper .
Check for spark . If still a weak spark just replace the ignition coil .
