I'm guessing by stuff, you mean apps. The way you get rid of these is by tapping and holding on any app on your screen. You will see the apps start to jiggle around. You find the app you get want to get rid of and now you press the "x" that could either be in the top left or right corner of the icon. It may confirm that you want to get rid of that app and you confirm that step. When you are done, press the home button located at the bottom center of the device. The apps will calm down. I hope this helps. If I misunderstood your question, please let me know. Have a good day!
I would suggest trying to close out the App by quickly double tapping the home button and then when the app comes up you want to close, sliding your finger from top to bottom or bottom to top to close out out selected app and see if that gets of rid of your numbers showing issue, it seem that it is residual artifacts from the app.
The App that you are wanting to get rid of is more than likely a built in App. All Apple iOS devices ie iPhone, iPod, iPad, iWatch come with pre-installed Apps, these apps unfortunately cannot be deleted, Apple does not provide any options with these built in apps to hide, remove or otherwise. ALL NON Apple Apps will always be able to be deleted, like you have mentioned by a wobbly widget and an "x" in the top left corner.
