Re: compressor reset switch?

No, just unplug it for a few mins. then plug it back in. that is the universal reset.

I have an Amana heater/airconditioner (Prestige I think) that is not cooling. The outside compressor fan was not spinning, so i I changed the capacitor on the unit. It now spins, yet vent air not cold

If that fan stopped your compressor overheated, shut off on thermal overload. Carefully cool compressor with water hose and restart. If the big copper is cold ,small copper warm, compressor is running. Check capacitor on compressor

Amana prestige II AC, outside unit erratic runs for a few seconds then cuts off

Hi there, this could be caused by several problems, unit shutting off on high head pressure due to the coil being very dirty. You can kill the power and take a water hose and was the coil out very good. Careful not to mash the aluminum fins for air flow. If this does not solve the problem, take the electrical panel off and look all of the wiring over for any burned or loose connections. You may need to call a service tech out so that they can check the internal windings off the compressor and the freon pressures. Hopefully its just a dirty coil and you will be good.

Amana Prestige II air conditioner. The fan unit on the top of the ouside unit stopped spinning. I gave the fan a good push and it started spinning (and continues to spin) however the air now blowing into...

You need to replace the fan capacitor. Your compressor is probably in thermal overload you can cure this by turning off the disconnect your ac voltage and taking a cool water hose and running over the top of the compressor for a while. Then turn your disconnect back on and listen and feel of the big copper line to see if it gets cold and also listen to see if the compressor kicks on.

I have an amana 90 home air conditioner w/ a amana prestige compressor. compessor runs but cooling fan not turning ,fan is not locked up and unit has power .of course w/fan not turning home is not...

Could be a couple of reasons for this:
1. Condensor fan motor bad.
2. Condensor fan motor loss of power.
3. Condensor fan motor capictor bad.

Unit has control for fan for low ambient operation and unit is low on freon telling fan its cold out side and dont run.
Hope this helps. wally

My ge ac model APE07AHM1 is not blowing cold air. What could be the problem?

This is an old question, but I am having the same problem with APE07AHM1 that I bought second hand. I'd like to recharge it.

The answer by binev_78 seems to be for outdoor AC compressor units but this is a portable stand alone unit, no outdoor unit.

Good noon! I have an Amana prestige II, but the fan for working compressor keeps running out of door when fan stop in the attic.

This sounds like your contactor is fused shut. Normally the contactor disengages when your unit turns off, but if the unit is getting older and runs for long lengths of time the metal will actually meld together. I would have someone replace the contact switch. Good luck

A/C unit turned off- didnt realize we had a mat covering the unit

If the breaker had tripped, you'd detect some looseness in the trip switch, even though it may not appear to be tripped. Once you have identified the correct breaker, trip it to OFF and then back to ON. Also check at the unit; it will either have a service disconnect, a fused disconnect or a circuit breaker at the wall. Compressor units have a thermal relay that causes them to shut down on high temperature. Let the unit cool down thoroughly. If this is the issue, and you are standing close enough, you may hear it reset when it cools. Usually, cool down occurs in 30 minutes or less. Try it again, but don't leave it unattended until it has made it through several cycles and you are confident that the unit is back to nornal. If any further issues develop from this incident, shut the unit down, trip the circuit breaker for the unit to off and call a serviceperson.
I hope this gets you going again!

Best regards, W/D

2 problems.. AC Comp cuts out. And Fan will not stop.

Unit#2 -Sounds like the contacts on the master switch are welded closed or the switch is broken, Replacing the switch should fix this unit.
#1 is a little more difficult to diagnose. The compressor is being taken off line by a circuit that protects the compressor from damage either; 1- liquid refrigerant getting back to the compressor which can be caused by something as simple as a clogged return air filter or evaporator coil on a heat pump or 2- overload situation caused by a bad condenser motor or a clogged condenser coil. The first thing you need to do is clean both coils and replace the filter,. Then check to be sure your getting good airflow across both coils. I think it's most likely an airflow issue I hope this resolves the problem GL!
