Audio failed on Dell Inspiron 1520, Vista Hm-Prem

Suddenly the audio quit working on my Dell Insp.-1520 running Vista Home Premium. In the Hardware manager there is an exclamation point beside a HD TV driver which is in the "Audio and game controllers" section. But I have never tried to use HD TV anyway. The regular sound program says it si working fine, and even though I downloaded a new driver for it, it made no difference. There is still no sound. I disabled the HD TV driver.

I tried plugging in some Logitec USB speakers, that work fine with no installation on other systems, and they did not work at all. The problem finder says "there is no solution online for this problem". So something basic in the audio has failed -- maybe it's a hardware problem. I have tried the headphone jack, and nothing there either --it's not that switch. But the USB speakers should bypass all audio hardware -- so there still is a software problem.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Dell 531 insp. will not boot up and has 3 beeps along with an orange light??? can you help tell me what it may be??

3 beeps signal a problem with the memory. take out the memory sticks, put another one in and try to start it - if the pc boots then your sticks are defective, if it doesn't then the motherboard is defective. Replace the failed part.

Speakers always garbled

Boot with an external bootable live operating system cd/dvd (preferably any of the live linux distros) if the audio works, then it is not a hardware issue. just search for the right drivers or worst case scenario format and re-install windows. if you still hear garbled audio, it is a hardware issue.

Dell inspiron 1520

Try uninstalling the software, then re-install it again and only plug the headphones in when asked to do so, this will enable the program to pick the headphones up and install the correct driver, if windows picks it up as new hardware and tries to install the drivers for it then it will not work correctly.

What version of vista are you using 32 or 64?
