Expensive replaceable cartridges are only made to offer 4-6 "good" shaves for most people. Sorry - that's the deal. You can strop cartridges (in on direction only) on denim and pick up maybe a dozen more - search youtube for examples. I finally gave up on carts and moved to a straight razor; a razor or two will last for a lifetime with good care. There IS a learning curve for safe use and maintenance procedures. Find a straight razor forum if you want great shaves and good advice on what to buy, what not to buy and how to be safe.

Double edged safety razors are also a very good alternative for better, smoother shaves and WAY less expensive blades. Same advice - find a razor forum to save money, buy right and avoid nicks.

Testimonial: "Dan,I appreciate the time and EXCELLENT advice you have conveyed in addressing my problem. I've heard the "double edge" razors were making a come back.I remember my dad using those blades and they lasted him 2 or 3 weeks of shaving every day. Believe I'll be getting one. As for the straight razor, they have been in use for decades for a good reason. They are easy to maintain their edge for a close smooth shave and last forever. As for the "cartridges" The manufacturers know as that strip of lubricant wears off the ANGLE/DEGREE of the blade changes pulling the wiskers more than cutting. What do we do then? We buy more of their cartridges. I would'nt be surprised to find out that it only cost them .05 to .15 cents to manufacture/make each cartridge.(and charge us $12 to $18.00 for a package with 4 cartridges in it. Again, Thank-You for your EXCELLENT advice to remedy my problem."

Wet shaving with a straight or double edged blade requires more attention to process than a cart demands. Take some time to select a good razor (there are many) and don't think a few bad shaves is the razors fault; if, after a week or so with a DE the shaves feels raw, try another brand of blade. Blades are made to many levels of aggressiveness and different brands offer vastly different results. samplers are easy to find online.

Additionally, I have very sensitive skin. Getting an irritation-free shave was been impossible for me with anything but a DE or a straight razor - sounds wrong but they really are better than carts. I can't stress the importance of knowing the "DO's" and the "DON'T's" with these razors. Proper skin preparation, a careful two- or three pass shave (with-, across- and against the grain of your beard) and skin-stretching are all the difference between a rough shave and nirvana. I think it's easier to shave with a straight than a DE, but straights require daily wiping, drying and stropping along with periodic honing. The process really calls for some education but, once learned, the shaves are worth waking up for. ;-)

Make single edge razor blades shaves smoother and last longer!

If you shave with a single edge blade, add a few drops of liquid soap onto the Hot blade edge,"Before you shave." After shaving and before storing, Rinse and clean the razor with hot water and shake dry!
It will be good for many, many shaves.

Does shaving your legs and underarms cut you? I want to shave my legs but I wear short skirts and dont want to walk around with shaving cuts.

Shaving your legs shouldn't leave cuts on your leg unless you use a blunt blade or don't use a shaving cream or body wash - in these situations the razor doesn't glide along the skin and can cause cuts.

What is an electric shaver?

Not like shaving razors, electric shavers work by shearing the whiskers, the hair enters the perforated metal heads of the shaver and is cut by the moving blade inside.

How often should I change the blade on my razor?

The blades should be changed every 4-6 shaves or more frequently if you have a very coarse beard. A dull blade will cause you to push down harder in order to be effective, pulling at your hairs and skin and causing irritation and possibly ingrown hairs.

How should I take care of my blade?

In order to take good care to your blade you should rinse out your razor carefully with hot water at the end of your shave. Allow the razor to air dry naturally; drying it on a towel can dull the blade.

Gillette Fusion Proglide Styler can not remove blade to change

I think some of you have it mixed up... this is the Pro Styler, a sort of powered stick that has interchangable heads (one for shaving, another with a guard & the one that comes installed on it for 'styling", i.e. trimming up sideburns, etc).

Anyone have a better idea? I can't seem to remove the styler & I'm actually sitting here with a face full of shaving cream as I wanted to try out the shaving portion of this rig.

It keeps saying check color cartridge. If the color is done, shouldn't I be able to still print, with black. And why it would not work if only one cartridge is in.

My dear its business, printers are running with mono cartridge, with our color cartridge who will buy color one? Its story of razor and blade, once you purchased razor, every time you need to buy blade! if the blade cost is half of the razor cost what you will do?. You cannot throw the razor out or else you can't spend on blade..this is business...

What is wet shaving?

Wet shaving at its simplest, is just that - shaving with water, a razor blade, and some sort of lubricant (lather, soap, etc.) on your face. Men have shaved this way for centuries, starting early on with a sharp knife or stone, progressing to the straight razor, safety (double-edge) razors, and eventually cartridge razors from companies like Gillette, etc.

Black powder on skin after shaving.

If you have dark hair, or dry skin, this could be the reason for the covarage on your skin. The shaver is cuting your hair, then "spiting" the hair back to your face.
