You have all the making of not enough power to operate the radio and it shuts down to protect itself. Hook the power leads directly to the battery terminals and keep the leads as short as possible. The more wire you have the more resistance and the more resistance the less volts your radio can see. Also be certain you have a good ground connection

When I key the mic up it turn off and then comes back on

Have you tried to look at mic pins where the mic connects to radio?. it will be at the end of mic connection..look in there and see if the copper pins have spread apart. you will be able to tell by looking at the other pins. if one is spread apart it wont make a good connection and shut things down. be sure when you screw this back on to radio it is tight., if you dont have copper pins just straight pins check to see if the straight pins are not loose. if they are you will need to solder them back tight.other than that it could be your radio..hope this helps.

Why is humming coming from speaker when mic is keyed?

this is strange as most times if a proper transmit key is depressed , then the radio switches from receive to transmit , the mfg know this would cause some great squeal from receiver /transmitting so close to a receiver so the part that is the receiver is muted to keep this from happening , id say there is some fault in the part that does this muting of receiver

Sounds like a programming error. Does it work properly in VFO mode? Did you try a reset?

How to get up/down functions on hp508 ham mic to work with icom 718

The IC-718 requires a 470Ohm resistor for the down button and grounds pin three with the up button directly. That isn't standard on the hp508 mic. It is designed so that the up/down buttons work for kenwood radios, and they are completely different. The kenwood uses pin three for down and pin 4 for up and they use a different pin for ground. You could make a special cable with the resistor built in and the correct pins connected to the up/down buttons and that would work.

My radio is a Galaxy DX 98. It squeals when I key up

change "MIC" to a factory,or turn back Mic gain. Mic can short out or may have too much gain(power mics). Use standard dead Mic that was designed for radio. If that does not help,it may be inside radio, wires on MIC connectors need soldered again(make sure they don't touch th eothers.

Radio squeals part time and meter only goes up half way when keyed up

you have a Microphone problem.. change your Mic. Mine done the same thing when Mic wires shorted together inside of the handpiece. Also, when it doesn't match the Ohm impedence. you can buy a replacement Mic at www.copperelectronics.com or Radio Shack.
