Monitor displays image for less then half a second after turning on

After turning it on, it displays the image which shortly disappears. The light next to the on button indicates it to be on, but it's not showing anything.

HDMI or USB connection?

Testimonial: "DVI connection, I think. With the multiple pins, but on the end of the insertion, has a minus shaped jut surrounded by 4 pins."

If you are making a good connection look to Windows. Sounds like it's assigning the video signal then switching it to something else. You may want to uninstall any other video drivers you may have running side by side.

One day it went black, if I turn it off then on I can see a perfect picture for half a second

If this is a LCD monitor, most likely the invertor or the bulb is not working correctly. If you shine a flashlight at the monitor you should be able to see the image. What has happened is the back light is not lit to display the image. If you are handy at repairing electronics you can swap invertor and bulb from the other monitor if they are the same model and size. It may require some soldiering though.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following
symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can
examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life
of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.

The fault could be a faulty inverter board that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or the CCFL lamp is faulty. The CCFL lamp is a mini fluro lamp that provides the back lighting for the screen.

Gateway FPD 1730 (mfg June 2004) On start-up, monitor flashes bios screen for less than half a second, then flashes the Windows XP logo for less than half a second and then stays black, no image. No...

All support is finished for XP years ago. The system is 13 years old and well past it expected life. Average is 8 to 10 years on a shop bought unit like Gateway, 12 years on a custom build.

I am thinking you probably have a dry joint on the board behind the switch as holding the switch makes the monitor work.

My advice though is a new computer running Windows 10, technology moves on in hardware and software.

this is usually a short that reacts to heat. as it runs and warms up it shorts, then it cools, etc, etc. I would just replace the monitor. With the black friday deals you should be able to get a flat screen for under a hundred dollars.

My monitor screen is ok for awhile but suddenly turns a dull yellow color. I just bought it a few months ago.

Hi,
you must adjust the display settings in the software program that was being used to change the display setting.
  • If you have a flat panel LCD monitor, unplug the monitor power cable, wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the cable and then turn on the monitor. This resets the electronics on the monitor.
  • Make sure the monitor has power - the light on the monitor is on. If the light on the monitor is off, the monitor does not have power. Connect it to a different power outlet.
  • If the monitor has a detachable video cable, obtain a second monitor cable for testing purposes in case the cable is bad.
  • follw the another steps-
  • Replace the monitor power cable.
    1. Turn on the monitor. If the monitor displays an image, you are done. If the monitor remains blank, continue using these steps.
    2. Replace the video cable. Turn on the monitor. If the monitor displays an image, you are done. If the monitor remains blank, continue using these steps.
    3. If the monitor does not work after replacing the cables, replace or service the monitor
  • Thanks,

Send the monitor. It's a power supply problem. My 15.4" LCD has the problem, too, whenever I move the monitor down, it powers off, and the menu disappears as well, but I'm going to fix the screen.

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

The power -inverter board probably needs an overhaul.
    I redo many of these.
If the screen was pinkish or flickering before it finally got to this point, it is possible that a bulb has gone bad.

Dimension of image change when displaying clear or dark image

Same problem Picked up this monitor about half a year ago, a Viewsonic A91f+, and have been having some issues for a while now concerning what appears to be shifting in the monitor image, but that is about the best I can describe it as. It is most noticable when a large dark area meets a light area, like text or window edges. This "shifting" only occurs on the right side of objects and seems to show most often after I switch resolutions more than a few times, usualy due to gaming. Ive also noticed it happening from running random programs that dont require resolution changing/flickers but this happens FAR less often. -photograph of the effect- As you can see, its pretty subtle on a darker background, but Ive had no luck carturing it on a light one. Anyone have any idea as to what is occuring on this monitor and how it could possibly be fixed? Possibly an issue with magnets? For a while, I did have a small headset hanging off the the monitor on the side that the images "shift" towards, but even taking those off and away havent fixed it. Currently the only fix I have found for this is to shut my monitor off for 5-30 minutes, depending on how bad the "shifting" is when I find a time break long enough to fix it.
