Question about Black & Decker Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines
One night i woke up to the sound of coffee brewing, despite the fact that i had not programmed the pot to do so, nor had i filled it with water or coffee (problematic). the clock said 4am, but it was really 530am. it hasn't " ghost brewed" since that night, but every time i reset the clock to the right time, a few mins to an hour later the time is all wrong. i've tried unplugging, reseting, etc. Help!
There is an issue in your main control board which requires a capable tinker to change out using a good one cannibalized from another identical coffee maker. Virtually all models of B&D coffee makers are sold for parts on eBay, but finding the capable tinkerer is the harder part.

Loosen the charcoal filter. You only need to GENTLY place it in. Your problems will all be solved. I just did it 5 minutes ago and i just brewed a 6 cup pot of coffee completely.

There are two heat stages in the Spacesaver. One is the carafe heater you can see while the other is an assembly within the main housing. This assembly contains a heater, thermostat, and a section of metal tubing with high temperature silicon connectors at each end. when the water storage tank is inserted it fills the heated section of the tube and when activated the water boils as it passes through the one way valve and forces the water into the coffee container. This steam driven surge repeats until all water has been moved to carafe. There are several failure modes associated with this assembly an I have two. 1. is the heater opening which I have and 2. is the thermostat degrading causing incomplete transfer and ultimately no transfer because it brings the temp down prematurely. Another is crud on the check valve so many problems - no solutions

This is a really common problem with the cuisinarts. I am most familiar with the DCC-1200, but you may be able to solve the problem. The may be an indication that something is plugged up. Open the top of the unit and in one of the corners you should find a water filter stick or column that is removable. Pull it out and open it up to clean out the clogged up carbon filter in there. (You can later buy a new filter on Amazon.) Clean out the debris from the bottom of the cavity. Replace the stick into the cavity once cleaned. Now it's time to run through a solution of 2 parts water and 1 part vinegar. Do this once or twice with fresh solutions, then with a pot of fresh water. When the filter stick is plugged up the sensor says its time to clean it or shuts the unit down, but most people don't know about this fix. I hope this is helpful to you, crystalm. Positive feedback is appreciated. Good luck. NormanZ
