HP OfficeJet 7310 - scanner stopped working

The scanner began its first sweep, then when returning to the start it made an awful noise and 'jammed' in place - lights still on. The unit would not turn off, so I had to unplug from the mains then re-start the unit. Printer and copier work fine, but not the scanner.

Do these tests. Try coping form the glass and ADF tray. If it works from the glass and not the ADF tray then you have a bad scanner motor assembly.

Well if you arem ableto copy properly, your printer is working perfectly. Its just that you have to uninstall the scanner drivers from the scanners and cameras from the control panel and then try a plug and play. This should resolve your concern. If you want any further support, an online technician from techbuddies can help you for free. For this log on to http://tinyurl.com/m7ghqz

Where is the carrriage located on my hp 7310 officejet printer?

The carriage is the unit that holds your ink cartridges, usually parked on the right side. When you have carriage stall or carriage jam you usually need to clean the clear plastic strip that runs across behind the carriage assembly, and make sure there are no scraps stopping the travel of the carriage.

I see those in the shop all the time, sometimes dirty rollers, sometimes paper clips and other foreign material caught in transport, and sometimes just stops for a scanner error. Usually a simple fix in the shop but impossible to diagnose without seeing.
