Hoover steamvac brushes don't spin. everything else works great. Took it apart and no visible problems

my husband took it apart today and the impellers were gunked up with black stuff.

he used these pictures that someone else generously posted. ours was slightly different in internal design, but they are helpful regardless.

here is an exploded diagram of the 5903, 04, etc. it will help you see if any parts are missing or broken.

parts list if you need some:

it's working fine now. sucks much better too. what a difference!

guess for the $179 these things avg, they just need annual maintenance. I wouldn't pay someone to do it though.

Sweeper head

First - press the circuit breaker button.
If no luck:
1. Make sure you have connected it properly (see diagram here)
2. If you connected it right - try bypassing circuit breaker.
3. Still does not work - make sure the connectors are reconnected properly.

This should take care of the problem.

Eureka 4870 hose assembly replacement

Boy, it's been awhile since I took one of these hoses off, but I think at least one of those plastic hose guide things has to come off in order to remove the hose. Those screws that look like they cannot be removed are probably torx screws which need a T20 torx scredriver that you can get at any hardware store. That is the most common size torx screw that Eureka uses.

Here is a link to the owner's manual in case you need any diagrams for getting the clear tubes off:
http://www.eureka.com/service/manuals/70750.pdf

Hope this helps. :-)
