Video card Problem

My video card don't work anymore(nvidia gts360m) so I am wondering if I can use video card on mainboard.I think there is a chip on it.I took the gts360m out of the laptop and I tried to turn it on but I couldn't get anything on the screen.Normally I am guessing that I must use onboard video card chip.Hope someone can help me with this issue..Thanks

If the card is sort of like a desktop video card then you by a a replacement. if the video card is integrated in the motherboard there are some companies that promise to replace it. Not an east task and price range is 90 to 15o US dollars.
If you can see video on an external monitor then the GPU is ok.

Just a follow up. If the card has the graphic chip and a video card then when you receive it I believe your laptop will work.

SO that is why an external monitor will not work.

SOURCE: Toshiba Satellite 5105-S501 LCD screen resolotion

This is usually caused by the cable that connects the LCD to the system board coming loose.

On this model, you can pop off the shiny black cover with three silver buttons on it above the keyboard. You will see a plug under there with about 25 multi-colored wires coming out of the connector. Carefully pull the connector off and then plug it back in.

If this doesn't fix it, try gently wiggling the plug with the laptop on and see if the picture changes quality at all. If it does, then the port on the system board may have gone bad.

SOURCE: Toshiba wont power on

Good afternoon!
From what you have told us, I would suspect that something got jiggled or joggled during the opening and putting back together process. I've done that to myself, in the past. ;o)

What I do in a case like this is as follows:
1-Power down and remove the battery (Leave the battery out until you get it running again)
2-Open it back up and disconnect and reconnect each and every cable and connector that I can find.
3-Remove and reseat the memory module(s)
4-Try to power back up.

If this doesn't do it, get back to me for some more diagnostics/ideas.

If you need any additional information, please feel free to ask. If this information has assisted you in the resolution of you problem, please return here to give my assistance an appropriate final rating. If this information has answered your question and/or lead to a resolution, please rate it as "Fixya!".
Thank you, and have a super day!

SOURCE: (Toshiba Satellite M35-S456) G-Force nVidia 5200 graphics card

To determine if your video card is faulty, connect an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first and then the laptop.
The video data will automatically switch to the external monitor and if you see a normal image then the video card is OK and the fault maybe the video cable, it may need reseating.
If the image still has the strips, the same as the LCD screen then the fault is most likely the video card or video RAM..
On some laptops video RAM uses part of the main memory modules, reseat the RAM modules and if this doesn't fix the problem then the fault is the video card. This very difficult be fixed becaused it is part of the motherboard.

This may or may not be of some help. http://www.laptopka.com/2006/04/12/remove-replace-video-board/

Usually with laptops you have to replace the mobo but looks like there may be a possibility (slim one) that the card can be replaced, however I could not find anything as far as parts to get to replace just the video card so its looking more and more like the whole mobo would need to be replaced.

SOURCE: Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q705 Laptop screen yellow

It is not a driver or video card problem. It is the monitor.

To be sure plug a full size desktop monitor into your laptops monitor jack. Every laptop has one. If the picture doesn't turn yellow that will confirm that your LCD is bad.

Is the Nvidia Quadro Fx 5600 in SUN Ultra 40 M2 a specific bespoke version for Sun Microsystems or is it a standard NVIDIA product? I want to know what I'm looking for on the online resale market

This video card was marketed by nVidia as a stand-alone product. That said, SUN may have has the cards specially made for their application, although that is not usually the case when using add-on boards. The doctoring occurs mostly on video that is integrated into the mainboard because of bus speed and memory sharing issues. Here is a link to the nVidia product sheet for the card.

Your laptop uses an Intel chip for the video, with the option of an NVidia chip. If you took the option then the diagnostic is correct - the NVidia chips of that generation were notorious for overheating and failing. If you have the standard unit (no options) then it's wrong.
You need to find out if the laptop actually starts: listen to the hard disk, if you hear it spinning while the boot takes place then the defect is somewhere in the video section. In that case connect an external monitor (a tv) and see if you get something - if you don't then the defect is in the graphics chip and the repair (if possible) would be about what he said. If you see then it's in the screen and it will cost you less than $100 to fix (unless you broke the screen). And no, you can't fix it yourself, the graphics chip is soldered on the motherboard.
If you don't hear the disk then the motherboard has failed and to replace it will cost you about $250.

Please, may you tell to me what is ACER ASPIRE M1641 motherboard name ?

Re: Sata driver - ACER M1641 desktop PC « Reply #8 on: March 28, 2009, 04:26:23 PM » I have discovered the previously unknown model of the motherboard in this system. I have searched and searched and could not find it anywhere. With the actual model of the motherboard you can get supported drivers right from the manufacturer, the same way you could if you purchased a standard motherboard like asus or gigabyte.

I have determined this motherboard (at least my acer a1641-e1712a) is a MICROSTAR board. A link to a board with compatable drivers can be found http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1499&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=2 .

The board is a MSI board using their mainboard search. My criteria went as follows...

Mainboard -> Intel Platform -> Socket 775 Chip -> Nvidia Chipset -> Nvidia MCP73 Chipset

That narrows your down to 8 or so mainboards, all of which use the same sata, audio and onboard video. My above link http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1499&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=2 will take you to a board where you can get SATA, AUDIO and VIDEO DRIVERS.

Hope this helps guys!

Hi,

You can purchase a new graphics card and install no problem. Dont use S-Video tho, as the quality is not good. HDMI graphics cards are much cheaper these days.

Stay with Nvidia, as the onboard chip for your PC would support this better.

Is there a replacement video card for the NVidia 8600 on HPDV9700

When you look at the specifications for your system and you see an "M" after the video card number, RE: Nvidia 8600M .... The "M" means that the video is a chip and is soldered onto the motherboard and cannot therefore be changed without serious knowledge of micro soldering these connections. It takes specialized equipment. In most cases you are stuck with that chip on that particular motherboard.

Video cards are causing 3 beeps

The 3 short beeps indicates a video card memory problem.
The video card uses video RAM that is part of the video card. Try reseating the video card and if the problem is not resolved then the fault is the video card and it needs to be replaced.

No to the cpu you selected. Board would not support that cpu. The RAM you selected would probably work but for how long I couldn't say. With prices pretty low right now it would probably be better to purchase a new motherboard, cpu, & RAM. Hope this helps.
