Question about IBM Office Equipment & Supplies

Everything works except for spacebar & key advance

I recently got this typewriter out of storage (has been stored with dust cover on) after several years of inactivity. Everything works great except for some reason the spacebar will not advance the element (ball) and the element will not advance when the keys are striked. In other words, when you press a key it strikes correctly on the paper but will not move to the next position for typing the next key - instead it strikes the next key over the first. It also stays in the same position when the spacebar is pressed. The two problems are probably related. All other keys work fine and all letter and number keys type as they should. Thanks for any help with this.

Tab key works perfectly. Correction key works perfectly. When pressing the space bar, it makes noise as though it is moving along but it stays in place. The element (ball) moves forward (to the right) when I press the tab button and returns to the left margin when I press the return button - or it can be physically pushed back to the left margin but it will not go forward (to the right) either by typing any of the letter or number keys or by pressing the space bar.

The T/W is probably just gummy. Will it tab? If so the correction mech. is probably the trouble, if not try some WD40 on the silver shaft that the s
carrier slides on.

Can someone advise why a IBM Wheelwriter 15 by Lexmark typewriter keys "1, Q, A & Z" will not type? Everything else on the keyboard works except for these keys.

Sorry it took a while to respond. The keyboard is failing due to age, very common problem. I get refurbished keyboards from EBM, ph.# 800-832-6522. that should take care of the problem.

Standard manual corona typewriter: spacebar not working

There is an escapement type mechanism in the back of the typewriter, chances are, the escapement mechanism is out of movement or misaligned. Check the spacebar if something is caught underneath or over one of the linkages.

How can I edit an address I already have stored in my IBM Wheewriter 6 without deleting it entirely and retype it in and storing it again?

You do not have to purchase a manual for this one job. There is a free copy at http://images.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/index/en.html
Just go to the bottom of the page for "Typewriters" and choose your model. I believe the answer you are looking for is on page 3-25. I have looked at it myself. Here are the steps.

Always open the storage before making a revision.
- The store light must be on.
Pressing Store + the number (1 to 99) always opens storage at the beginning of a job.
If you play back too far or want to start over:
1. Press Play to stop playback
2. Press Store + the number (1 through 99)
3. Press Play. (Playback starts again at the beginning of the job.)

Use the Correction key to erase unwanted carrier returns from Stored job:
1. Press Play or Play+Spacebar until the carrier return playb
2. Press the correction key.

After making a revision hold down Play while you press and release the Spacebar several times to make sure the next few characters play back correctly.

When revising indented jobs, be sure to stop playback at the word or character you want to revise. Remember, you cannot use the Correction key to erase characters typed before you press Code+Tab or Code+Crtn. Therefore, if you play back too far, you may need to start playing back again from the beginning of the job.

Let me know if there is anything else needed.

I recently acquired an ibm wheelwriter 6 type 674X typewriter. I have looked on line for an instruction manual. I can't find one for this model.i am wanting to type labels or phrases repeatedly and am not...

To record you hold down"store" and hit "1" that opens the storage unit. Type what you want to keep. when finished press "store" again. that closes that storage unit. When you want to play that , hold "play" and tap "1" that storage unit will play out. You can repeat this in storage areas "1" to "99" until the memory is full. To delete the storage unit, hold "delete" and hit a paticular storage area, such as "1" all will be deleted.
