The port to which the printer is connected is not supported. Check the port

I'm assuming you are using a USB connection, not a Ethernet connection.

Try a different USB port (preferably in the REAR of the computer, not the front). It's not unusual to have 1 or 2 poorly-performing (low power) ports on a PC; some printers don't like those.

If you have a really old computer, it may have ancient USB type "1" (slow) ports instead of the newer 2.0 or 3.0 USB type. Some printers don't like old USB 1 ports, but it is not supposed to matter.

If all else fails, try another USB cord, or a shorter one. Some printers don't work well with cords longer than 4 feet, and USB cords can go bad.

Or, try the printer on another computer. If the same USB cord works fine there, YOUR computer has the problem (probably a USB port or USB driver issue).

Are you having issues with other USB devices? If so, it may be a Windows driver issue.

Good luck. If no help, post your exact printer model # here, or try contacting Lexmark.com support

Connect usb port

Check all computer connections and cords. Is the powerstrip for surge protector light indicator bar (usually inside the off/on switch itself) on?
All it takes is a pet to walk over it or a foot to bump a cord and break the power connection. Mine do it all the time. Check the power on/off button on the printer to see if it accidently got powered down.

Problem with USB cord, but the usb cord fits in printer and laptop fine. Computer screen says Printer ready, but when I try to print a message says check USB cord. Don't understand

Try using another USB port if you have one. If the others are full, disconnect one of your devices from the USB port and try your printer there. For some reason, switching the USB port sometimes makes devices connect. Good luck!

You need a USB cable, it plugs into the printer under the cover, usually has a clear tag on it that says USB, then to any USB port on your computer.

MY COMPUTER SAID IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE MY USB CORD

It will never say it doesn't recognize a USB cord.
A USB cord is just that--a piece of wire. It might tell you that it can't find the printer.
Has the printer worked before?
If you are installing it for the first time, did you install the software before plugging in the printer?
If you have done all these things, then either the USB port is bad or the printer is.
But--try uninstalling the printer first--and any software that came with it. Then reinstall the software and plug in the printer.
While I did mention that the cord is just a piece of wire, it is possible that the cord has become damaged in some way. Try using a different cord. Also, try using a different USB port.

I can't get printer hooked up properly to usb in tower

Unless there is something wrong with your hub, you should be able to plug into any of the 3 ports. If that fails, try temporarily plugging directly into your PC and see if the problem goes away. If so, the hub may not work for you. If not, try a different USB cable.

Windows does not start when I leave my printer plugged in

First if your USB cord is too long try to switch it out with a smaller cord. If that does not work please unplug printer boot up and enter the BIOS settings.

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

Then check to make sure your boot sequence is setup to Hard Disk first and not USB, you need to make sure the USB Boot Device does not have priority over HDD.

Finally make sure that USB Emulation is not turned on in the BIOS.

If all of the above does not fix the issue you may have a faulty USB port or a bad mother board.

Computer won't recognize USB ports

If you are plugging a USB device into a different port it takes some time to recognize and install it - it re-installs for every port. There could be cable and/or port issues as well. Plug the printer into a USB port that the mouse does work on and allow several minutes for it to detect install it.
