Why does my washer (maytag mah5500bww front loader) make noise during the wash/rinse cycles but not during the spin.?

The noise could be from a loose wire harness, plastic purse-lock wire harness retainer on the upper hose hitting the top cover ir a plastic injector mold standoff on the outer tub bearing housing, also a flat spot in the belt could cause a tapping noise. Something between the outer tub and wash basket. I have had to remove items lodged in the drain tube between the pump and tub, like bra under wires. Sometimes you can squeeze the tube and feel objects the ate lodged. I always take the tube off the tub side and run my finger all the way down to the pump impeller to make sure. I also check the I can spin the impeller and the nothing is in the pump. Hard to say with out being there. Where do you think the noise is coming from top , bottom , left , or right side?

Spin cycle suddenly failed to operate

Hi,

If your washer won't spin, check these:

It doesn't pump or spin If it doesn't pump water out or spin, check to see if the motor is running, then proceed as follows:

  • Ifthe motor is running, your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley ora broken pump belt. To check the pulley, remove the pump from thewasher and try to rotate the pulley manually. If it doesn't turnfreely--if it's frozen or stiff--replace it. If the pump belt is brokenor looks quite worn, replace it--but be sure to check the pump pulleybefore you change the belt.

  • If the motor isn'trunning, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machinecan't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside thewashing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have toraise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to theswitch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

It pumps, but doesn't spin If your washer pumps out the water but doesn't spin, check these:

  • Thelid switch may be defective. If it is, the washing machine doesn'tspin. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near thedoor frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of thewashing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need toreplace it.

  • The motor coupler may be broken. ManyWhirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensivemotor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft ofthe motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it.

  • Abelt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If abelt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuinebelt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designedwith special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

  • Theclutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to comeup to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may preventthe unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you needto replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualifiedappliance repair technician.

  • The drive motor may bedefective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation themotor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It'spossible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue tooperate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entiremotor.

  • The transmission may not be shifting properly.Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with anelectro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partiallydefective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complexsystem, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire aqualified appliance repair technician to repair it.

  • Thespin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These componentsallow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this isthe problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Calla qualified appliance repair technician.

It spins only with the lid closed Forsafety, washing machines are made so that they spin only with the lidclosed. The lid switch prevents the spinning action when the lid is up.

Why the fan is not working , the fan not move

1.Check to see if the washer is overloaded. Modern washing machines have automatic shut-off devices for out-of-balance loads. Try removing some of the clothes out of the washer and restart it. Check to make sure the lid closes properly and that the lid switch clicks when the lid is closed. If the lid switch does not click, then the switch may need to be replaced or the lid may be bent. If the washing machine still does not spin, go to Step 2. Make sure the water is draining properly. If the water does not drain out, then it could cause the washing machine not to spin. Check all the drain hoses for any clogs or kinks. This is easily done by disconnecting the drain hoses and doing a visual check for clogs or kinks
3.Check to see if any belts have came off or are loose. Unplug the washer and pull it away from the wall. Use the screwdrivers to remove the back panel. Visually check for any broken or loose belts. Replace any loose or broken belts.
4. While the back panel is off, visually check for any loose or missing bolts on the motor or drum. If any are missing or loose, tighten them and replace the ones that are missing.
5. If everything has checked out to this point, then the water level switch could be bad or the water level hose could be clogged. Remove the front panel of the washer and locate the clear tube going from the tub to the water level switch. If lint or debris has gotten into the water level hose, then the washer may not spin fast. Clean the debris from the hose by blowing on the hose or tapping it on the side. To check the water level switch, go to the back of the washer and locate the back end of the water level hose. Use the voltmeter to check to see if the water level switch is getting any power.
6.If the washing machine still doesn't spin fast enough or doesn't spin at all, then it is time to call in a professional washing machine repairman.

Tub free hits side of washer when trying to spin

1- Clothes load is not balance. 2- Tube is balanced by several springs from the bottom tube to the chassis. If one of these springs is broken or slipped out the tube will lean to onside causing this problem. Check these out.

Sides vibrate during spin causing a lot of noise and machine moves. could it be out of balance?

1- Clothes are not balance inside the tube. Try to rebalance the clothes when it happens. It usually happens when towers leaning on on side when water level selector not set appropriately. 2- Try to level the washer by adjusting the leg screws at the bottom of the washer. 3- It make a lot of noise since the whole washer moving against the floor. When it spin only the tube then it won't be like that.

Kenmore washer model 110.23812100. basket not spinning during spin cycle.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer.

    http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.23812100

Also see the Whirlpool Service Manual for these washers.

If you can hear the motor and the washer drains during the spin cycle the Motor Coupler and Lid Switch (the usual problems with these washers) are not the problem.

These washers use a clutch which allows the "basket tube" to spin up to speed during the spin cycle.

If the clutch bands or springs are worn or damaged, the transmission cannot transmit power to the basket tube for spining.

See the following on how to remove the cabinet, agitators, basket, pump, transmission and basket tube. (It's not as difficult as it sounds.)

    http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Instead of using a special spanner wrench on the spanner nut, I've used a short 10" pipe wrench hooked onto one of the tabs on the nut and tapped the handle with a hammer to loosen the nut. I also put a short piece of wood under the Basket Drive Block and hit the wood instead of the drive block directly.

Check the clutch bands and springs and the tabs on top of the basket tube and the slots in the basket drive block.

    GE WASHER WWSE6260B2WW

The most common reason a GE washer will not spin is that the water level tube has a bunch of goo in it. When the washer pumps out, the air does not escape past the goo, and the washer thinks it is still full of water, and thus it will not send power to the motor to spin.
Pop the front off the machine with a putty knife at the front top seam and pull the clear tube off the left front side of the outer tub. Usually it is easiest to just cut off the first inch of the tube (where the goo is) and reattach, however you may want to clean the tube end and the hollow nipple it attaches to with a thin wire. This problem is seen most often with consumers who rarely if ever use liquid bleach. If you don't use bleach very often, filling to the lowest water setting with the hottest water possible, and a strong concentration of liquid bleach, then running the washer through a cycle (no clothes) every 6 month or so should prevent the problem from reoccouring.

Washer fills up but wont spin

roof, if it fills and just sits there it could be the pressure switch, grab the end caps on each side of the consol and pull them off. Remove the two screws under them and flip the consol up. On the left side you will see the pressure switch with a rubber tube going to it. Get yourself a piece of tubing about the same size in diameter. After the washer fills, remove the tube from the pressure switch and blow into with the spare tubing. If the washer starts agitating, the pressure switch is the problem. Catriver.
