You have the same problem, when you connect the power connector?
Make sure you see the light go on, before you try to start the mac.
I sometimes have to start twice or even three times, because my battery is getting old. but till now it always started.

SOURCE: Mac book pro. Black screen cannot start but with boot sound

Have you tried connecting an external monitor.

A boot chime means the Mac has passed POST, that the screen remains black initially suggests there is a problem getting image to screen which could mean a bad cable to the LCD or the LCD display its self is having problems.

By connecting to an external display you verify the graphics on the logic board is functional, and it could get you up and running till the display problem is fixed.

Also try powering up and when you hear the chime, hold down the COMMAND+OPTION+P+R keys, and keep holding them till the machine has chimed 3 times, this will reset the 'BIOS' in case there is a glitch there stopping the display from showing up.

MBP cannot start black scteen with boot up sound

Hi JJ Su,
To connect an external monitor to your MacBook Pro, you will need an adapter that connects to the mini-display port on the MBP, and has another plug that is appropriate for your external display {VGA or DVI}.
Take a look at Amazon to find a relatively inexpensive adapter if you don't already have one.
-Please make sure that you order the right kind of adapter for your MBP since there Apple has used 2 different kinds of ports depending on the particular model!
FYI, if the external monitor doesn't work either, then you probably have a bad GPU {Graphic Processor Unit} on the motherboard. IF the external does work, then you either have a bad internal screen, or some bad connectors/wires inside the MBP...
Hope this helps & good luck!

Mac book pro 3.1. 2.66hz. Model A1151. Screen black when start with boot sound

Try the standard start the laptop holding option and command and p and r (and hear that boot sound twice or three times; note that it gets louder)--this clears any info the laptop might be holding onto, like "I'm suspended with a blank screen". You can also unscrew the bottom plate and disconnect the battery, hit the power button to clear any residual power, reconnect the battery and screw back the plate (or maybe you just have a battery door to simplify!); then, maybe it boots, but I suspect...

...you screen is bad (since your hear the boot sound); to test: assuming your TV has an HDMI port, get a miniDP to HDMI cable (e.g. under $15 via Amazon slash dp slash B00APLKGA8); then physically connect, then change the input on your TV and hope there's a picture (e.g. your desktop background)--if you can't see anything, unplug and replug the thunderbolt/miniDP connector (or borrow any good laptop and verify you can see it on your TV)...

Assuming it's out of warranty (otherwise, you should be at the store already!), so pay $ to your nearest Apple store, or (for the brave) buy the part (hoping LCD panel; i.e. your TV saw a signal), and see repair guides via ifixit dot com (just note the super fine print on the bottom of your laptop; you'll need your Model No; A1286 or to do some searching).

Macbook pro 17" checkered screen

It is likely a solder joint gone bad between the GPU and the board due to more ecologically friendly but more brittle non-lead solder. You can either take the computer to an Apple store and consider the cost of having the motherboard replaced (roughly $600) if it's no longer under warranty, or search for local technicians who are familiar with "reballing" the GPU (which shouldn't cost more than $200US). Be aware that a replaced motherboard may just be a swapout from another MBP manufactured under the same conditions. Read this article for more information. Try booting into single user mode by pressing Command+S while booting. You should then be at a prompt. Type in:
fsck -f
and press Return. Let it run and see if it corrects any filesystem issues, then reboot when it's done.

17" MBP Slow

Depending on the amount of RAM that you have, you may need to add RAM. If you have less than 2GB, you should upgrade the RAM. The other issue could be memory in general since you're running both systems and obviously have a smaller drive than would be available if you were only running one. I would remove the partitions and use one boot drive to see if that makes any difference. Just back your files up first.
