Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

My desktop came up with a blue screen last week and wouldn't boot, so I decided on a reinstal of XP Home Edition. Set Bios to boot from CD - the PC reached the stage where it uninstalled Windows files and then the message: "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API" comes up - over and over in a loop as the PC tries to boot from the XP disk. I would like to format the C drive, but PC won't respond to any prompts. Thanks Colin N.

    Thanks for the reply.

I tried refitting the RAM but the problem remains.

Do you think it is likely to be the RAM itself?

    Thanks

First refix your RAM.
Then boot youre computer with winxp
Then go to recovery console.
Then type in command prompt "chkdsk /r"
then enter "y"
then it fixes error on disk.
Thats it.

Never nice to see the blue screen. What is the status of your PC, does it still reboot? If so, press F8 after BIOS boot before it start windows. From there go to safe mode and execute a virus scan first.
After this shut down and restart pc again.

How to reinstall windows XP

If your computer boots up you should be able to reinstall with your xp os disk, click on your cd drive & choose reinstall or new install, after that you'll probably have to go to windows update & update the system, if that does'nt work you may have to go to bios settings & set the cd rom as your boot devise, restart & install that way, after your done be sure to set the bios to thier default settings.

Dell Inspiron 530s/531s desktop, Win. Xp home...Windows stops responding at the ''Loading Personal Settings'' cannot boot in safe mode.

try to boot in "Last good known configuration settings" by restarting your pc and then press F8 before windows appear and then select the boot option i mention above. if this not work since you said that it can't boot to safe mode, your other option is to repair the windows or else reformat it. when you repair the windows you must have windows xp home edition cd installer, you load it to your cd/dvd rom and then restart your pc and press F2 or DEL button before windows appear in order to go to setup bios settings. in bios settings, you choose boot order setup and setup first priority to cd/dvd and press F10 by saving the changes and then press any key when you see the prompt so that it can boot up to windows xp home cd installer and then follow screen instruction that you arrive to windows repair option.

I have a Gateway 507 GR Windows XP Home Edition. Windows does not load/Boot, Error message "Not found or corupt. I can hit I think it is F-2 or F-12 (I forget) and go to the BIOS settings, and try and...

to go to bios setting either u can hit F2 or F1 key. then u change the boot priority. set it to cd-rom device.
after that u can boot from any bootable cd.

for your operating system problem, boot from the xp bootable cd after setting boot priority, and then repair or reinstall your operating system. some files might have been corrupted.
