Starter winding like a vacuum but won't turn over the engine

If your starter is spinning but no engaging the flywheel, then you have 2 possibilities going on here, the # 1 and most likely cause is the bendix on the starter is not kicking out to engage the flywheel so you'll need a new starter... pretty cheap fix.

# 2 is that for some reason the teeth on the flywheel have been chewed away and now the starter gear can't crab the flywheel, this would only be a secondary answer if for some reason your starter had been grinding while trying to engage. Just an FYI, this is very rare but has happened, considering that your engine flywheel stops at the same spot every time you turn your engine off, so the starter is constatly grabbing the same flywheel teeth all its life. For this fix, you'll have to have the transmission removed and have a new flywheel installed on your engine.

Where is the flywheel located on an Echo PB251 gas leaf blower?

Before you go through the trouble of dismantling the blower to get to the flywheel you should perform a compression test. 140 psi is ideal. Less than 100 its probably not worth repairing. Less than 90 it shouldn't run.

Should the flywheel move counterclockwise without the engine???

Typically the flywheel is keyed to the crankshaft and cannot move without rotating the engine also. If the key is sheared then the flywheel can move without moving the crankshaft. To check this the flywheel needs to be removed and replace the key. Of course the reason for shearing of the key needs to be corrected before the problem is fixed.

I have a 6hp tecumseh + both flywheel magnets came loose I am not sure where they go on flywheel.

When we have this problem at our shop, we replace the entire flywheel. The magnets can be re-glued with epoxy but we don't recommend this for the exact reason you stated in your question, "not sure where they go" If you don't get them right, it wont work. Besides, Tecumseh went out of business years ago and there are only very few parts floating around. Chances are slim that you will find it but you won't know until you try. George

Starter whines

You could have a bad spot on the flywheel. The flywheel is a plate with a ring of teeth the gear on the starter engages. If you turn the crankshaft a few inches and the starter works, I would check the flywheel.
Otherwise, it could be a mounting problem with the starter, or something keeping the bendix gear from engaging.

How do you remove the flywheel off the top of my toro 5.5 gts so I can replace the kill switch mech under it.

Not sure what you mean by "Kill Switch", but you should not need to remove the flywheel for any reason, except to replace the timing key. If your mower has a turn key electric start, you should be able to get at that switch w/out removing the flywheel. And if you're talking about the engine-kill break, it's on the outside of the flywheel. Just take the cover off, and then the top (four bolts) where the recoil mechanism is. I hope this helps. If not, then please provide more info and we'll get you fixed up.

90 blazer, starter problems, grinding at flywheel, tried, new bolts, shims, and new starter, how often do you have to use 1/2 shims?

inspect fly wheel good could have bad ring gear. check torque convertor bolts they are tigth. with starter bolted up NO SHIMS push out pinion gear and check clearance at flywheel teeth . you can use a feeler gauge (ROUND DIAMETER) measure clearance between top of flywheel ring gear tooth & bottom tooth of pinion tooth on starter clearance should be 0.01-0.06inchs. can ge shim in different gauges. DONT USE MORE THAN 2 SHIMS. some times you have to shim them but not often most of the time if use shims have a flywheel issue.

Clutch went out..what do i need to buy?

I would go to your local parts house and ask for a New Clutch Pak
which should have a new clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing and a pilot bearing and a alinement tool. Than I would see if they have a replacement flywheel. The reason for the fly wheel is due to hot spots and uneven wear on the fly wheel. If you do not replace your flywheel or have it machined you will get chattering everytime you step on clutch

99 devile, have to manualy move the crank to get starter to inguage sometimes. it is the 4.6 northstar.what would cause this...

broken tooth or wore out teeth on the flywheel. The flywheel is mounted to the engine when the starter is engaged its gears (teeth) engage the flywheels teeth and turn your engine. The reason you can turn the motor and try again and it grabs is because you have turned it enough to grab some of the good teeth you have left. You must replace the flywheel. Hope this helps

Starter problem 1988 Jeep Wrangler

I sit here on this site and help people with their issues all the time, and I do it for free. I've been in the mechanics trade for over 24 years, and I think I have a good idea of what I'm talking about. I don't know it all, and I even need assistance from time to time. The only thing I ask in return for my help, is a good rating from the people I help. Once you replace your solenoid, your issue will be resolved. Yes the fix is that simple. Remember to disconnect the negative cable from the battery before you replace it, so you don't ground anything out.
