I have a tower computer kind of older . when i plug in the microphone to the back i.e. microphone port, nothing happens to signal it reads the microphone and when i try to use the microphone for fruity...

Assuming you are running windows XP you need to

1. right click the speaker in the lower right corner and select adjust audio properties.

2. Select the audio tab

3. Pull the drop down menu under sound recording and make sure it is selected to your audio driver device. Most are either soundmax, creative(for soundblaster and audigy standalone cards), realtek, or ASUS.

4. Next repeat step one but select open volume control

5. Go to options and then properties

6. Select the circle for recording and make sure your mic input is checked.

7. Close that window and recording mixers will pop up. Select the input you need by checking the box in the lower left corner of the mixer channel. Adjust the level and then use your recording program or sound recorder under Program files>accesories>communication>sound recorder.

How do i turn the microphone on, on my Toshiba laptop

1 . Turn your computer on. Be sure that the speakers on your computer are turned on as well.

2 . Attach the adapter to the microphone cable, if it has not been done already.

3 . Find your computer's microphone input. On most PCs, there will be an area in back of the tower with red, blue and green plug-in ports. The red port is the one for microphones.

4 . Plug the microphone cable into the red port. If you see ports that are labeled "line-in" and "mic-in," be sure to plug the microphone into the port that says "mic-in."

5 . Double-click the small speaker icon on your computer to open up the mixer. Make sure the microphone column is not muted and adjust your volume until you are satisfied.

Hope the above information will be helpful to you.
Thanks for using Fixya.

Where does the Microphone plug in to the Dell Vostro200

Depending on the chassis-style of your Vostro 200 (Slim-line or Tower), you may have one or more options for installing a microphone.
See below for instructions:
A. Slim-Line Model
There are two locations on this model (by default).
dd21be3.jpg
Front: You have the power button, then 2 x USB ports, 1 x Headphone jack-out, and 1 x Microphone jack-in.

Rear: There is a block of six audio connectors, looking only at the bottom 3 (red, green & blue).
Red = Microphone jack-in Green = Speaker/Audio jack-out Blue = Audio jack-in

B. Tower Model
There is one location on this model (by default):

Rear: There is a block of six audio connectors, looking only at the bottom 3 (red, green & blue).

What is the green plug at the back of the monitor that connects to the green plug between the pink and blue port at the back of the tower panel on a Compaq Presario is it the sound?

the pink is for a microphone and the blue is for a "line in" (much like a microphone). the Green plug is for your speakers. your monitor would only have this plug if it has built on speakers.
