Sounds like the ground wire in the control box where your key switch is located is broken are disconnected. check the wiring harness plugs if it is unpluged are not pluged tight it will not shut off

Mariner 50:hP outboard starts only when you flip kill switch

Check the installation of the switch. It sounds like it is installed upside down, or the terminal wires were reversed. You may be able to easily switch the leads to make it work correctly.

Yamaha 115 will not shut off with key or kill switch

not enough information on the motor. what year and model? but all yamaha outboards are shut down by the C.D.I. being grounded by the key switch or the emergency kill switch. the cheapest thing to test or replace is the key switch and the emergency kill. with more info on engine I can help you further.

Turn the switch off motor keeps running

It sounds like there is a short in the alternator or wiring for alternator. You are continuing running with the battery cut off. But the outboard generates its own power and its finding the way to the ignition. As for grounding, you may be idling too high for a quick shut off.
