Replace thermostat

follow upper radiator hose to aluminum housing this is where the thermostat is. be sure engine is cool remove radiator cap or reservoir cap if no cap on radiator disconnect upper hose from thermostat housing. remove two bolts in housing and remove housing. replace thermostat and reassemble. when finished refill anti- freeze leave cap off and start vehicle with heat on high. run the vehicle like this until air stops bubbling out of coolant and heat is hot steadily. continue topping off coolant during this process and be sure cooling fans engage before completion. then youre all done

Need to find the location of the thermostat on 2001 Cadillac Catera or diagram of its cooling system

First make sure and drain the water/anti freeze out of the radiator. ( be careful with the antifreeze you drain out because it has a sweet taste and is extreamly toxic and will kill any animal that finds it including you.) Just look at the radiator and you will see a large hose made of rubber. Follow that hose to the engine . The thermostat is under the housing that the hose is attatched to. Loosen the hose clamp and pull the hose off , that way you can see the thermostat down in the housing.

How to replace thermostat on 1997 dodge stratus 2.4 litre engine

Follow the top radator hose to where it connects to the motor. On my 97 stratus you follow the top hose which leads to piece where the radiator cap turns on, take out the 2 bolts and underneath is your thermostat

drain radiator first before you begin anti freeze is poison to animals you will also wont to get a thermostat houseing gasket replace the old one use 50/50 anti freeze put new thermostat in the same direction as the old one bleed air out of radiator when complete

Need to replace thermostat housing in a 2000 pontiac grand am 2.4L. I know where it is but I need to know about any precautions and what is involved in the process,

Engine should be cool

Catch leaking anti-freeze from thermostat housing hose when disconnected (if any)

Good idea to always disconnect negative battery cable anytime working under hood for extended period

Clean old gasket of block

These come to mind.

Overheating

there are three hoses leading to the water pump. the biggest one oviously goes to the thermostat housing, but the other two are much smaller 1 inch hoses, one of wich goes on the water pump and the other on the thermostat housing. if you follow the hoses one will connect to the upper part of the overflow for the radiator after hitting a T in the lines, that hose connects to the thermostat housing, and the other goes to the water pump its self.
