Probably running too fast. You can slow it down by adjusting a screw behind or near the carburetor. Monitor the voltage while doing this. The adjustment screw will be one which moves a lever with a spring attached to it.

What type of oil do I use 1850 pm0401850

Oil Type. Use new good quality oil such as SC, SD, and
SE grades. The oil to be used depends upon the temperature
at which the engine is operated:
Summer: (temperatures of over 40 degrees F/10 degrees
C) SAE 30 or SAE 10W-30, SAE 10W-40
Winter: (temperatures of below 40 degrees F/10 degrees

No AC out put

After working on several of this style coleman generator,i have found that the lead wires in the windings that are soldered to where your brushes would contact tend to break.I don't know if it's a poor design or just a fluke,i would check to see if your getting continuity on the rotor and go from there. They seem to either "burn off" or just break.

Have older powermate 5000 contractor gen. runs great but only puts out 5.5 to6.1 volts. has new brushes

Hello. Plug something into your generator's receptacle, say a trouble light. Then check the output. With no load at all [nothing plugged in, you will get a voltage reading that is low. regards, Joe

Generator output

Hi, You don't say whether this is under load or not but if not is within the acceptable range, which is +/- 10% . Generally speaking, voltage on a generator is not the issue but the load which it will carry, hence their wattage ratings. Measure your household voltage and you will see that it varies from day to day but usually stays within the limits and your electrical panel is rated in amperage. Hope this answers your question!
