SOURCE: My Nikon Coolscan 8000 Ed will not start

Make sure that the computer you are using meets the criteria for the program with both the operating system and hardware. If so, try un-installing the camera software and then re-installing it. Beyond this, the problem can become a little complicated and require you to call the tech support from Nikon. They should know what it required to make their program function properly.

SOURCE: Nikon scan was unsable to find any active device

I may have a solution for the unrecognized film holder/clunking problem.  The fix is not for the faint of heart, but you can do it yourself and save a bunch of money.  The problem lies in the two rails inside the scanner that the film carrier rides on.  After unplugging you scanner, remove the 8 screws from the rear of the unit and slide the cover rearward about 3/4" and then lift it straight off.  Inside you will see two shiny machined rods running from front to back.  The problem is those two rods have dried up lubricant on them and the film carrier drags a bit during film carrier insertion and/or scans.  The easiest way I found to clean the rods is to remove the front cover (look for screws inside on each side), and then carefully slide those rods out (but NOT all the way) and wipe off what is exposed and then apply a little silicone lubricant to the rods (be very careful to not get any down into the lens area).  Then slide the rods back in and repeat for the portion that is exposed in the rear.  Carefully re-assemble everything and you should be all set.  This fix worked for me on an 8000ED that I purchased used on eBay.  Hope this helps someone.  Brian

SOURCE: Nikon LS 2000 scanner is reporting a hardware error

Hello Mike,

According to a previous post this is your answer by:

The symptoms of stepper motor failure are a loud grinding noise during scanning followed by the enlightening message:
"The scanner has reported a hardware error. The present function cannot be continued. Sense: 0x04620000"

SOURCE: I am using a Nikon

try to see if the scanner is present in the device manager and if it is ,,to be installed and not in yellow,,
if a driver for windows wasn't provided it means that the driver is included in the software try to update it and be sure that it is the one suitable for the operation system you use..
Here is the support site where you can check and read all trouble shooting issues that may occur ...
cause the error specifies that it is a hardware related error ..I think that it worth to go to bios of the pc...and activate the feature called optimal factory defaults...and after that save all changes by pressing F10
The thing that I try to underline is that may be a problem with a disabled bus...if it uses a firewire..or another like thi s..and the action will enable all buses if they were disabled by default or other causes..

I have a blackberry storm. When I woke up this morning, I found an App Error 523 Reset on a white screen. When I pushed the reset button, my phone loaded, but then it said Uncaught Exception 8>=8 and...

I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything. If you have never installed the Desktop Software to your PC, then skip steps 1 and 2.

1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)

2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
  • KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software

3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

  • Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
  • KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization

4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:

5) Install DTM to your PC

6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package, follow this KB (including the other links within the KB) for recovery from the 523 error:
  • KB11816 Error "523 app.error.Reset" appears on the BlackBerry smartphone

Good luck and let us know!

Kingston DTM 2GB

hello roc0380,

it seems that the Kingston 2GB DTM is fully compatible with Microsoft Vista. So I don't think you'll have to upgrade the Migo software on the device. If you connect the device to your Vista machine and there are any malfunctions, try downloading the most current version of the Migo software at

Hope this was helpful information
