Dear Dana,
"Fixya" is a service that tries to help people fix things that are broken. We have no parts or manuals.
A question you might ask us is " My food dehydrator just quit. What should I check first? ".
As far as a manual for yours, look for the make, model number, and any more information you can find on the machine, that you might do a search on your computer for "who to call".
God bless your efforts.

What is Food Dehydration all About

Food dehydration is a very long standing way of preserving food. In modern times, food dehydration machines have been developed, allowing people to dehydrate their food at home.
Dehydrators work by removing the moisture from food thus allowing them to last for much longer.

Because the water is removed at a very low temperature, the nutrients and enzymens of the food are not destroyed and that's why dehydrated food is seen as part of the healthy food movement.

How do you use a food dehydrator?
1. Wash and dry the foods you want to dehydrate
2. Arrange the slices on trays. Try and avoid overlapping.
3. Set the temperature using the guide. Generally the lower the temperature the greater the preservation of vitamins and nutrients.
4. Keep an eye on the trays, turning them in the dehydrator.
5. It can take anything from a couple of hours up to a day to dehydrate food, depending on the moisture levels.
6. When the food is ready store it in airtight plastic bags or containers.

Enjoy experimenting with your food dehydrator. It's fun for kids as well and is a great way of preserving fruit and vegetables when you've overbought or can see food would otherwise go to waste.

What is the difference between freeze-dried and dehydrated food?

Freeze-dried food is quickly frozen and placed in a strong vacuum. This process uses low heat and causes less harm to the tissue, taste and smell of the food. To dehydrate food, heat is applied and moisture is removed through the process of evaporation. This is a low cost method in comparison to freeze-drying.

Hi I purchased a Nesco food dehydrator at a yard sale and need a manual for it . Model fd60, can I print one off the internet for this model?

I would think that any dehydrator information would work for you.
You just have to be sure the components are working (ie. fan and heating coil.) A dehydrator is pretty basic.
http://www.food-dehydrator.com/food-dehydrator/books.aspx here is a link for books on a site that sells the product.
You can find a lot of books at the library too.
This might also help, dont let the name fool you: http://www.astray.com/recipes/?show=Dehydrator%20general%20instructions
With some searching on line you will be able to find a lot of instructions and probably even ones for your specific dehydrator.
Look on forms about drying foods and ask for the basic instructions if you find you really need them after looking at the links above.
There might be someone willing to scan them and email them to you.

HAVE DEHYDRATOR THAT DOES NOT HEAT ANYMORE

Take apart the bottom unit that contains the heating element. Hopefully it's put together with phillips screws. Mine are not. I'd have to drill out the brads that are holding it together. Once it's apart, use an Ohmmeter to check the heating element. Be sure to disconnect the fan from the heating element when ohmming out the element. If the element is open electrically, replace it. Good luck in finding a place to purchase a new element.
