just found out the noise only happens when machine is loaded not

when machine is empty. does this support your solutions of a new drum ?

    thank you

  • anpazi Jun 18, 2009

thank you so much. it is the ASO model.

Thank you very much for trying to help me. The technician that came out and looked at the problem appeared more interested in overcharging than in fixing the problem. Therefore I have decided to try and fix it myself. I noticed that the "tub leveling shock absorber" on one side of the drum appears to be leaking the grease that I believe is inside the absorber. The other shock absorber has no grease on the outside of it whatsoever. Should this be happening or is it possible that the shock absorber (since it is called "tub leveling") may be what is causing the problem? Also I looked on a parts diagram for the "link" you mentioned when you had this problem but could not find it. Could you please describe it in more detail. Thank you very much for all your help.

thank you . I have looked for the link between the motor and drum

on the diagram that you have mentioned , but could not find it ?

is there a part name or could you be kind enough to describe it ?

    thank you again.

i have spun it by hand abd it does not make a sound just like when

there is no weight in the drum.

thank you very much, will let you know if it worked.

what is the model exacly is it the AS/ASO/or/AS1 if you can get down and dirty you can take it apart and check if a linkage is broken because if the noise only occurs when it loaded its no the drum. you can find a great diagrams of the inner parts and prices at sears parts center. i had the same problem and it was the link between the motor and drum that was making the noise because it was cracked.

it could be a reson because it should not be leaking, have you looked for othe slightly carcked or broken thing? here is the link for your washer machine:

  • ss4769 Jun 22, 2009

mine was a 4 year old whirlpool top loader so its probably differnt, yours uses a belt drive fairly confident it is ither the shock absorver,a spring, a loose belt or the motor itself. have you tried spining it by hand to kinda locate a general area of where the noise is coming from.

  • ss4769 Jun 22, 2009

you should buy the shock absorver because since it has no presure thanks to the leaking grease it probably cant stop the machine from bangin against the side when its loaded like its supposed to

try changing the leaky shock absorver

Frigidare front load washer has loud banging on spin cycle. After much work we reallized one shock was broken of which we repaced both now it still making the loud banging shaking motion. Also the washer...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Since the suspension is ok and it is level, check your drive motor and spin bearing. Usually, these are the trouble parts when loud noises are associated with the spinning cycle. Your drive motor controls the spinning. Since the noise is during spinning, that is probably where your problem lies.

Very loud noise during spin cycle - drum still spinning at normal speed. sounds almost like a broken belt - are there more than one belt?

only one belt on machines, ur looking at one of the following

  • loose counter weight
  • something stuck in drum, eg bra wire, sock
  • bearings failing
  • broken shaft
  • machine not level maybe?

The drum shakes violently and is very loud during spin cycle

There are 2 shock absorbers/springs attached to the drum. If one of them breaks it will cause a loud banging noise when you wash heavy loads. This is an easy fix. The part is about $22.00 and it is accessed throught the front bottom panel.

Very loud noise during final spin

Possible your spider arm, which you cannot see, has come loose, or has broken. Its a major fix.

Noise when ge washer put in spin mode

this could be one of two problems.

The first which is fairly cheap to repair would be to check the carbon brushes in the motor, they may need replacing, especially if your washing comes out wetter then it should.

The second is the bearings on the drum which is more expensive to replace and would need to be done by an engineer.

Makes a noise like there are rocks or coins when it spins

If it is thumping... you have a broken spider on the inner stainless steel drum. Major defect with this machine. You'll need to call to get a new washer tub assembly... comes complete with inner stainless steel drum and outer plastic drum already assembled and ready to install. Good luck.!

During spin cycle started making loud noise now drum feels loose DURING SPIN CYCLE DRUM SOUNDS AS IF IT'S HITTING SIDE.. FEELS LOOSE WHEN I PUSH IT AROUND FRIGIDARE GLTF1040ASO

ckd your warranty papers sounds like rear drum support(spider) has broken will require new basket and rear drum half est cost 400-600 spider is not a separate part and rear bearing is probably damaged that too is not a separate part and require rear tub replacement
