Replacement of Whirlpool part 77001257 by 8203529 for Amana ARTC8600WW range...

Control switch for dual heating surface element in our Amana ARTC8600WW range (year 1999) failed and did not cycle power after the heating element was turned on. The range was in very good condition so we wanted to replace the switch. However, the original Amana part Y0315855 was not available. The company was taken over by Whirlpool and we found that Whirlpool part 77001257 should be used. But that part was not produced anymore either. On Best Buy web site we found information about an alternative 8203529 Whirlpool part. We order it, installed into the range, and got no action. From other web sites we quickly learned that the part is not the right replacement and that there is no replacement switch for our range at all. We hesitated to replace entire range so instead of returning the part to Best Buy we decided to investigate the differences between the original part and 8203529. Soon we began to believe that 8203529 should work. Specification as well as all connections were fine so we tried to adjust a little bit the tension of bimetallic element inside the switch. There is a tiny screw accessible for this purpose. The adjustment can be done be a 5/64 hex key which, for electrical safety, we insulated by a plastic tube. Immediately we got the expected action. We tested all settings before mechanical installation and all of them worked very well. The mechanical installation of the switch needed a makeshift bracket to distance the switch from the back of the panel wall in order to get the position of the switch knob properly leveled with the front wall of the panel. Just shortening the shaft of the switch was not sufficient. The bracket that comes with 8203529 was not suitable for our range. It was not difficult to make another bracket so we repaired the range without compromising its functionality or safety. That confirms that part 8203529 can be used in place of Whirlpool part 77001257.

Coffee pot won`t turn on.It`s getting power because the clock is running and the 1 to 4 button lights, but when I toggle it to on the red light does not come on.

It is possible the heating element is burnt out, or the safety fuse has been fried and is opened not allowing power to the element.

Spinner safety switch

Replace the switch (with the machine unplugged). As you indicated, it's a safety device and therefore I won't tell you how to defeat it. It's a relatively inexpensive part.

I have a Kenmore 500 series dryer. The dryer just stopped working but the light stays on when the door is closed.

the door switch is broke.when you push on the paddle of the door switch the lite should go out,if you don't see the paddle it most likely broke off,you need to send the full model number next time,it will start with 110.or similar.the door switch is a safety so the machine won't run until the door is closed,if the switch is broke no power will go to start the dryer

Lid will not engage safety switch , closing lid does not engage safety switch , i have to wedge something in it

Either the pin on the lid has broken, or the switch mounting bracket has broke or the screws losened and the pin cannot push the switch enough. If the switch is mis-positioned, you'll have to open the washer top and check out the switch mounting. Goodluck< Macgivor

I have a double oven top one stopped heating up sooo i just switched the elements from the bottom to the top as to order the parts but that isnt the problem the top still won heat up

This could be a faulty circuit or sensor that will need to be replaced before the oven safety feature will disengage. If the Temp sensor is not registering as working or the load sensor it will not allow the element to heat up. This is a safety feature. You will need a repair tech to diagnose this and do the repair.

Manual transmission, have to press clutch all the way to the floor to start car, can this be adjusted

the clutch 'safety' switch is basically a button on a bracket under the dash that is pushed by the clutch pedal lever to only allow the car to start when it's's described as 'self adjusting',having to push it to the floor is normal.check condition of switch bracket, that a 'heavy' foot hasn't bent it,look at switch 'pusher' on lever for an adjustment or modification to suit your needs.

Replaced element now it will not start model # dhsr333 ge dryer

Frigidaire – built (Frig, Westinghouse, Tappan, Gibson, Kelvinator): most newer models tuck theirs above the large round element ‘pan’ behind the drum. There’re often tight ones to get to, but if you pop the cabinet top (a putty knife pushed into the front, on each side, releases the top clips) and swing it up out of the way, you’ll see it back there, next to the safety tstat. It’s the smaller round device, and its wire terminals are usually the smaller 3/16 inch ones.

GE/Hotpoint: Pre ‘Profile’ models mounted their thermal in the same basic location as Frigidaire.

One final note on these: if you find your thermal fuse (or element) open, before replacing it, be sure to check the airflow out your dryer’s vent system. Even though these devices do ‘wear out’ with age, poor airflow’s the #1 cause of failure of these devices, and if your vent’s partially clogged, a new thermal won’t last very long, but will do its job again, and leave you ’cold’ (a new element won't last long if the vent's clogged, either).
