Question about Canon PowerShot SD400 / IXUS 50 Digital Camera

1 Answer

When I turn my SD400 digital elph on to cameral mode, it turns on for a moment then turns off, beeps 4x and shows a black LCD with the code E18 in the bottom left hand corner. Charging the battery has not resolved it. Playback mode works fine.

Where on earth do you find snow this time of year ? If moisture has got inside the camera, chances are it's ruined, I'm afraid.

Camera turns on but shutter does not open. green light comes on then it beeps twice and shuts down. You can view pictures fine though

You mean SD400 camera doesn't show any error sign and it just doesn't have live view to shoot picture?
If yes, its problem of bad CCD imager and Canon will provide free of cost repair facility for SD400 camera.

I have a power shot sd400 digital elph, when you turn it on the view finder just shows white with black lines and spots.can this be fixed

Depends on the age- If it is under warranty then send back to the vendor or maker.
If out of warranty - then no - insofar a likely repair charge if possible will cost nearly as much as new camera

E18

The following blog outlines some repair options for an E18 lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try if the camera's no longer under warranty:

http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

It's important that you fix the E18 error first, as the blur of colors may be symproms of a failing CCD. If so, Canon would fix this for you for free IF the camera has no other problems (ie no E18 lens error). Please see the following info:

Camera rapidly beeps 6 times when powered up and immediately turns off!

I HAVE SOLVED THIS!
I Totally fixed my CAMERA!
If you turn on your camera, the lens does not come out, and it just beeps then turns off, then listen to me.
You need to unscrew the outer casing and take off the metal shell.
Hold the camera in one hand, palming it, looking down at the LCD (ie the lens is pointing into your palm). This is to orient you.
If you look at the left SIDE of the camera, near the upper left corner of the LCD, you can peek through some of the windows of the black plastic casing and see 2 PLASTIC GEARS. The top one is white, the other is black. These are the gears that actually move the lens in and out. All I did was give the white gear a good jiggle with the tip of a pen and evidently it made the teeth of the gears mesh together like its supposed to and .... VOILA .... the lens came out when I powered it on and all is well! I know this is gonna help someone!
