Question about Samsung CLP-510 Laser Printer
An error message prints instead of the document asked for. The error message is "SPL-C Error-False" with Position, System, Line and Version information. Version info never changes "SPL-C 1.28 09-15-2004". Test page prints beautifully, tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried calling Samsung but no advice.
SPL stands for "Samsung Printer Language". You are using an USB cable that is either too long (above 6 ft.) or too thin (cheap cables).
The reason why the test page prints is because it is a very simple and small page (thinking on kbyte terms). But larger streams of data do not arrive correctly due to attenuation and the error page prints instead.
If it is absolutely necessary to connect beyong 6 ft, you need either a good quality USB cable (try the Belkin brand found at OfficeMax), or connect using a parallel cable.

I am using about 20ft of USB cable with no problems here, but I use the active USB cables that have the built-in amplifiers in the to boost the USB signal over long distances.

Wrong!!! I am using the Parallel bi-directional cable and get the same error. So it is not a serial issue. Don't know what it is but appears that it is detected at the printer end.

Flopez is spot on. The CLP-510 printer is not a bad unit and has it problems like all other printers. One of the most insidious problems is USB cable length which is why they are supplied with a pathetically short (1M) USB cable. I got mine to work with a superior quality (woven sheath) 3M (9ft) cable but 4M was too long.
Thanks Flopez - well done!
