Testimonial: "Hello Paul, just wanted to thank you for getting back to me. I was able to get at the 4-5 wires that were fried/fused; decided to cut and wire nut them; had a few spare thermostats/blocks(?)for heating element, replaced them & lo'and behold(after checking everything twice) she kicked on. Now I just need to figure out what's causing the element to pull away from drum every now & then. At any rate, I thank you once again. Be well. Gus"

Heating element literally came loose from whirlpool ler5644awo and fused several wires together

Your heater is a long insert which fits into the heater metal can held by one screw between the heater terminals, not likely for this to slide out of the can as it requires a firm push to fit all the way in before securing it with the screw. In any case the heater can should be removed, the heater insert inspected, along with your electrical terminals on the heater too. Expansion and contraction caused by heat and cool can cause poor electrical connections leading to shorted, burned, fused wires. If the heater is fine, the safety thermostats check out, and the home vent is functional, the only repair is to correct each damaged wire, as your wire harness appears to be no longer avail. How to take front panel off samsung dv218 ae dryer

I was timid at first and then I tried it. It was much easier than I expected. Unplug power. Take the large square top panel off the dryer after removing two large screws on the back. You will see 4 screws nailing down the plastic control console bar. Remove the 4. You will immediately be able to pull out the control console with wire attached. Do not disconnect the wire bundle. Just temporarily move the console on the top of the large stainless drum. You will then see 4 screw attaching the front of the dryer to the case. Remove the 4 and remove another 2 on the door rim. Do not remove the 4 screws near the door latch and 2 large screws for the door. You should close the door as usually. Disconnect the top door sensor wire. Swing down the door. It will come off easily. You will see a screw that attachs the heater assembly (that has two thermostats and one heater) to the chasis. Always wear gloves to prevent cuts.

If you search the web, somewhere a good netizen posted pictures for the removal. You don't really need the detailed instructions. It is pretty straightforward.

By the way, if you are only replacing the thermostate on the heater assembly, you can open the vent cover attached to the lower back of the dryer. You will see them there. To remove the entire assembly, I suggest removal of the front (as above) and the vent cover. Some people managed to replace the entire assembly without removing the front. I tried it. It was too difficult to maneuver. Not worth trying. Justo open the front. Trust me. It is easier than you think. I hope someone had told me this before I changed my heater assembly.

My 20 month old Samsung DV218AEB (same as DV218AEW except blue color) dryer all of sudden had no heat. No error code at all. Everything else appeared OK. I opened the vent cover and disconnected on wire from the heater connector. The heater tested open (resistance was infinity) with my multimeter. It should read 10 ohms. The two thermostats both were fine. Their resistances read below 1 ohm. Repair man said this kind of failure is very common for Samsung dryer. I should have kept my working 19 year old Whirlpool dryer!

WHIRLPOOL LER5644AWO DRYER

If you are experiencing longer dry times and poor drying efficiency, the following link can give you some things to check before assuming you have a malfunction with the dryer:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3578821-dryer_takes_too_long_to_dry

The number one cause of dryer heat related problems is poor exhaust ventilation. If the dryer can't breathe it will not dry efficiently and will cause the heating circuits to overheat to the point of failure. The dryer will actually seem hotter as the heating circuits begin to overheat. This can also become a fire hazard if not resolved. Read through the link provided and review some of the potential causes. Hopefully, this may save you a service call.

If you still have problems, please post back and let me know and I can tell you how to troubleshoot your heating circuits and/or assist you with identifying parts. Since your dryer IS heating (but poorly), I don't think you need parts. Just a good cleaning. I hope this helps you.

I have a Whirlpool electric dryer model# LER5644AWO and I just replaced the thermostat/fuse (kit 279769)because I had the heating element checked in town and was told it was the thermostat/fuse.Dryer...

Check your breaker - a dryer will spin at 120 volts but needs the full 240 volts to dry. If that's not it, and it checks out to be your heating element or your thermostat fuse again, you may have some wiring problems in your house (possible power surges). Check your vent from the dryer to the outside of the house - if this is clogged, it may be shorting out your fuses. Hope this helps,..Good Luck...

LEQ9508PWO breaker pops

IF IT SMELLED HOT, I WOULD LOOK A THE ELECTRICAL WIRING FROM YOUR OUTLET, THROUGH THE ENTIRE DRYER. START WITH PLACES OF EASY ACCESS AND WORK YOUR WAY INWARD. LOOK FOR MELTED OR BARE WIRES THAT MAY HAVE COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE METAL FRAME OF THE DRYER.
TRY SELECTING FLUFF AIR (NO HEAT) AND SEE IF IT WILL RUN O.K. IF IT DOES, I WOULD SUSPECT THE HEAT CIRCUIT. TAKE THE BACK PANEL OFF AND INSPECT THE WIRES AROUND THE HEATER ASSEMBLY.

I've searched around for DIY instructions, but those are exceedingly difficult to locate. It seems that Whirlpool wants you to buy their Door Reversal Kit for 11.99 in order to accomplish this.
