Open control panel -> sound, from there you can see the available devices and adjust sound levels. Also there is shortcut for sound in windows taskbar.

SOURCE: sound

I would venture a guess (not knowing anything about your particular model) there is one of two volume controls on the unit itself:

- Part of the keyboard, generally bearing a speaker insignia of some kind. If it's part of another key (ex. the up/down arrows) you may need to hold the Fn key down while simultaneously pressing the aforementioned keys.

- Somewhere along the sides or the front, a rotary device of sorts. Something like you might find on a walkman or discman to adjust the volume.

If not either of those then perhaps a hardware issue of some kind.

SOURCE: Dell Vostro a840 very low sound from laptop spekars

Go into your control panel and locate your sound card equalizer program, you may have to try several settings in the "Mixer" but you should be able to find one which substantially increases your volume output.

Popping sound during startup

the popping sound during startup is more than likely your sound card kicking in unless you are hearing it before windows actually kicks on.

if that is the case make sure there is no CD or DVD in the drive because it could just as easily be the system trying to boot to or spin up that disk
