Motor Pulley Squeeling - Maytag MDG5500AWW

Dryer is has a high pitched squeeling noise (hurts my ears) when operating and out of operations and you manually turn the drum. The dryer will operate, however, just a very loud squeeling noise and after it runs I smell a burning smell (like an old sewing machine smell, if you know what I mean - maybe oil)

Turned the drum support wheels; no noise. Turned the motor pulley and that is where the noise is coming from EEEKKKKK. Is this hard to fix?? Do I have to replace the motor???

thanks - Diana

Sprayed WD 40 on the motor ends - at first it stopped for about 5 seconds and then squeeling again - I know it is coming from the motor pulley because I got my hands in there and loosened the tension on the motor pulley and turned it and that was the squeeling noise. It seemed difficult to turn. Any thoughts??

Yes the squeel is coming from the motor shaft - a blown bearing EEEKKK!! How much is a new motor??

Try spraying wd 40 on the motor ends to see if it will stop if not try the rollers normally they go bad and make the belt squeel.

You don't have to replace the motor if you have a grease gun and buy a grease needle at a auto parts store you can grease the bearing with synthetic grease by drilling a small hole 1/32 and sliding the needle into place and grease it then clean it and fill the hole with two part epoxy, or if you want you can replace the motor for about $120 dollars, if you need more help on this procedure just ask here again.

Are you saying that the motor squeals when you turn the motor shaft? if so a bearing in the motor sounds like it would be bad. you should be able to buy another motor in that case but the cost may warrant you just buying another dryer. maybe you could find a used one from an appliance repair man.

sounds like a motor bearing to me... should be an easy fix and relatively quik fix but the cost may not be worth it to you.

  • Michael Fenton Jun 18, 2009

I would guess at the motor cost.. and my guess may very well be wrong but the cost i would think would be a 100 dollar bill. this would not include labor if you choose someone to install it for you tho. if this helps please take a moment to rank my answer. good luck...( if it were mine I would replace the motor and not get a new dryer but thats just me)

Basically the dryer emits a squeeling sound. almost as a worn bearing would make. kinda starts out higher pitched and gradually gets to be a consistent squeel..

Maytag mdg9606 gas dryer. The drum makes a squeeling noise when running

most likely the drum support roller. could be the idler pulley or the motor also. physically look at and spin the rollers to tell for sure.

Dryer making a high pitch squeeling sound when

The idler bearing that keeps tension on the belt is going out due to heat leaching the grease out of it. Have it replaced.

Mazdaspeed protoge 03 is making that high pitch squeeling noise and i just replaced powersteering belt.also as soon as i turn a/c on it starts squeeling

That means the fanbelt on the alternator is not tight enough or needs to be changed, if the belt on powersteering goes via A/C than it might be too tight on the powersteering pulley.

Very Loud Dryer

squeeling hi pitch is usually the drum support roller above the heater. if you take the machine apart and turn all moving parts by hand you should be able to find the problem...if its a rumbling noise then it may be the blower wheel. UNPLUG FIRST..good luck :)

Dryer making horrible squeeling noise

this is normally a problem with rollers that have gotten dry bearings , take the drum out check the rollers if they turn hard or act sticky you may clean them up and and oil with turbine oil , do not use wd-40 or 3in 1 as these will dry the bearing, check the idler pulley while you have this apart also oiling it if need be

Dishwasher Making Loud High Pitched Noise.

How deep do you want to get into this?It sounds like the wash pump motor bearings that are worn. You can pull the unit out flip it over and wd40 the bearings in the motor or you can replace the bearings.Try to lube them first.
