Did you make sure the power was off to the receiver. if you did not switch off you blew up those two channels for your speakers.
you need to make sure you power down before any connections are made. you need to take it in for repairs

Hook mz506 surround sound to my Samsung tv

Typically surround sound is run through a receiver or stereo. The sound from the tv is carried to the receiver by cables (hdmi or Audio-Video connected to input area of receiver). Then the speakers are connected to the output area of the receiver.
If you are not using a receiver, then the speakers must be able to connect directly to the tv and you have to see what kind of cabling your tv supports.

I can not get the sound to work on the tv without the speakers

Need to know some things:

Brand and model number of the set.

If you connected speakers from one unit to another did you disconnect speakers from the TV?

Speakers have different impedence's---(resistance) and if you hooked for example a 32 ohm to a set which uses 4 ohm speakers you may have little or NO sound.

Also if for some reason you had both speakers for both hooked up at the same time and turned the units on---may have destroyed the audio circuit.

Clarify a little what is hooked up and from where and how.

I am not able to connect my logitech speaker system z523 to my 32lk450 tv. It worked fine on my last hd tv, I had it connected with rca white and red cables. Is it compatible with my new tv???

The only way you can connect external speakers to this model is to connect to the TV via the headphone jack this way no matter what you are watching DVD, TV, VCR the audio will pass through. Most TV's now do not have speaker outputs as it saves a little money on production. Good Luck : )

Hooked up HDMI cable from receiver to tv, no sound coming out of speakers, am/fm works through speakers fine, is there something I need to do with my tv to make it work, and does it matter which HDMI port...

The HDMI ports on your television are not audio ouput ports, they are same as component INPUT, but with all in one cable. The only way you can connect your tv to your stereo is by adapting the headphone jack on the side panel of the tv. Get a mini 3.5 mm y-adaptor to two rca female connection, now you can hook to your stereo using white & red L-R connections analog.

No other way to connect this. Refer to page 29 of your instructions manual.

Can't get sound from TV alone. Am using an optical audio cord. It is hooked up through a digital cable box. Even before this we couldn't get sound from TV alone.

I assume that you mean your TV speakers are not operating OR you do not get audio from TV channel sources.
If you want your TV speakers to work, make sure that the TV speaker is enabled in the TV setup menu.
If your TV is connected to the receiver to get audio from it through external speakers powered by the receiver, then make sure you have a connection from the TV labeled as "variable audio out" into the receiver on a panel labeled as something to the like of "TV/SAT IN" or "TV/SAT AUDIO IN." Then, turn the volume all the way up on the TV, then operate it with the master volume on the receiver.
