I was having the same problem. I just figured it out. You have to set the audio input on the receiver to D-IN instead of AUX. On your Panasonic DVD remote, push the "SETUP" button until you see "TV AUDIO" on the front of the player. Then push the down arrow. You will either see AUX or D-IN. You can't toggle between the two. If you see AUX, you need to push setup again and then push the down arrow again and you should see D-IN. You should hear TV audio at that point. I don't think they could have been any less vague about this in the instruction manual. Hope this helps.

in the tv setup menu there should be an item that will allow you to change the volume from variable to fixed on the output of the tv

SOURCE: Just got Panasonic Home Theater
What kind of TV do you have?
I have found one of the easiest ways to connect surround system is to connect all your accessories (ie. Wii, Cable Box, VCR, etc) to the TV.
Next find the AUDIO OUT on the TV and connect this to the TV or AUX input on the home theater.
Tune the Home theater to the Input that you connected the TV to. This should play the audio through the home theater for any input you tune the TV to.
Note: make sure to turn the TV volume all the way down otherwise there will be some distortion due to the delay between the TV and the home theater.
